Hey guys, I am 18 years old, have an associates degree, and currently go to BYU (a college located in Utah)

I am looking to go through the business school here, but recently I have really gotten into IM.

I actually enjoy this work, the research, the writing (I love writing) SEO for some reason just seems to amaze me, I dunno but so far I have really started to enjoy IM. And slowly I am seeing more and more sales.

I am now considering to do this as a full time job. Maybe even turn it into a career.

I want to take time off from school to get more into this field, but I wanted to know, for those of you who do this full time.

What have you experienced? (No job is perfect, it is a good thing I don't do IM for just the money or I would be out of it by now)

You are lucky since there are so many proven models, tools, resources, tactics, services etc. these days.

If you know what you're doing...

... you can make a very good living via the internet and it can be on virtual auto-pilot.

Depending on your wallet and approach, your workload could be quite small - say 10 strategic hours per week perhaps less, if you simply pay for your traffic/visitors.

Like I said earlier, you're quite lucky as these days will be looked on as golden years for savvy online marketers.

First and foremost: if you "take time off" from school, you will almost certainly never get around to going back. That's one of the biggest regrets of my life.

Second, I've had an absolutely awesome experience in IM. It's been one of the roughest transitions of my life... honestly, we're scraping and scrounging at pennies most of the time... but we don't go hungry, and the bills get paid. When I think that six months ago I was making nothing online, and now it's my full-time job? That's incredible. Even though I'm not living the luxurious lifestyle some people do, come on, it's only been six months. How many people can switch careers on short notice and build something sustainable this quickly?

That said, I think a tremendous part of my ability to do that came from the two decades of experience I had in brick-and-mortar business. I do kick myself for not doing this sooner... but I also recognise that five years ago, I simply didn't have the discipline and experience to do it this well.

I have both a bachelor's and master's degree and got laid off from working for a Software Giant. I just got sick of working for other people, so I'm building a business in IM. If I had known about IMing earlier, I would have done it earlier. Going to college was a fantastic experience and I loved my college years, but you'll need to pay off school loans unless you have grants and scholarships. Compound your time and income by IMing. It's a lot easier to do when you have multiple streams of income.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you in your future! =)

    Thanks guys! Definitely great information!

I just keep itching to get out of college and into a career! I guess I gotta slow down first though. I did tell my parents that I probably wanted to make an online business, to my surprise both of them thought it was a great idea.

(my dad whispered to me that he thinks I will be the rich one of the family, not like that's all that important, my older brother is a super genius)

I have decided I will stick with college, but I will try to IM at the same time.

Thanks again guys, and glad to hear of all of your success. I hope that I will have the same in the future.

I must say, good luck to you. As for experience, its only been a year and 3 months since I learn about IM. Along the way from then to now, I've made 10k (in my national currency) from blogging and ebay dropshipping (don't know if its considered IM or not ) its not much, but I'm still learning and leveraging my income every time I went online.

A year ago, the reason I go online was to check my social network, chat with my peers or downloading illegal movies/tv series. Its totally a waste of time.

Now I found my true passion which is SEO and SEM. Its really challenging, yet it gives me a truly enjoyable atmosphere, aiming to be at the top of Google.

I'm a fulltime IM ever since I got kicked out of college, which is last year. Although I had the option of applying again, it never make it in my mind. I figured, why do something I don't enjoy doing? Furthermore, its my dream of being rich and financial free (as with many people out there) by not working with other people than myself. I'm my own boss. And then comes another reason:to prove all the typical mind that people can succeed without a bachelors degree or whatever certificate there is. I have a long way to go, but its only been a year and I still have youth in my side.
