You've confused me slightly..are you in UK or in australia?
    Your profile says UK..

If your in aussie..that looks like its either a python or brown snake.
    I'm not 100% sure.

If you are in australia -where are you? curious, cuz i've lived in queensland, nsw, vic and currently south australia.

wow,i've never been to darwin. It's been pretty hot up there lately.
luckily adelaide still been cold. We'll actually get some warm weather this week-yay! some sunshine!!

I can't believe i'd actually ever say this..i'm kinda missing the gold coast weather :S
Nice place to visit, not to live.

I think there is a gov site listing snakes..umm lemme find it..
eeek..while searching for site..in results a news story headline "14 snakes found in womans bedroom in NT"

It could just be a carpet python which are harmless i think.

Just don't attack it,more often than not snakes are scared of us. Especially one that small.

Cool snake! From what I know, pythons are non-poisonous; they kill by hugging you to death. And they have some kind of markings on them - not plain brown like your photo.

But the aussie brown snake sounds like it's really common and it's really, really poisonous.

        When in doubt... RUN!

        Dot

PS - We get copperheads here by the Chesapeake Bay. Not as deadly as y'all's brown snake, but they can sure put the hurtin' on you all the same.

    Hey Daniel,
Cragar here. You know I am always here learning if I am not chatting up a storm with you
That is DEFINITELY NOT a python...as ALL pythons are spotted in coloring.Could be a Brown but they are mostly found in Australia<VERY DEADLY..Without seeing it's head I am unable to be positive though.
Glad to see that your are still kikkin' I need you to finish your mentoring with me>Sounds selfish doesn't it
    See you soon BRO'

I showed the photos to the campground manager and he asked me about its head and well because the the head was not wider than its body he said it would have been a king brown!

Thank god I didnt start giving it a poke with a stick!

There's a few different types of brown snakes so stay away from all of them. They're all dangerous.

Australia has something like six of the top ten deadliest snakes in the world. Aren't we lucky!

Browns are dangerous because they're usually quite aggressive. I saw a red bellied black snake (also deadly) when I was walking my dog, but they're shy and he just ran away.

the main thing is to leave them alone, they respond to movement, not sound, so try to be as still as possible (unless it's about to strike) we see browns and red bellies about each summer, there usually not a problem unless you disturb them accidently.

(I have a friend who breeds venomous snakes, he's has been bitten by a brown and taipan and lived to tell the tale!)

Audrey - It was my understanding that there are 11 poisonous snakes and Australia has them all. Never been there so don't know that but I've seen that more than once.

Danny - what? You don't know anyone there you could have borrowed a flute from and just charmed the beast? Oh, we're just so not impressed.
