Probably my favorite band is Massive Attack. Most of you have probably heard them in some movie or another.

If you like obscure music, does

Here he is also playing live at the Live 8

This is a stunningly simple and very beautiful
piece of music played by some earth spirit
lass in deepest England, my guess, somewhere
around Somerset / Wiltshire.

She's playing the instrument known as the
Hammered Dulcimer - the tune is Dance
of The Unicorn
.

Very soft and gentle medieval music.

Have a listen, it's very calming and simply
beautiful...

Here is another of my favorite instruments,
it's called the Hang Drum (pronounced 'hung'
drum), the sound of this thing is truly magical,
unlike anything you have possibly heard before.

There's loads of Youtube videos of guys and
girls playing this instrument, many of the videos
are just simply gorgeous - quite simply, wonderful
music to practice your yoga or tai-chi, meditation
to.

This fellow is up in the Scottish mountains, playing
next to a waterfall, have a listen...

Hang Drum TheArtOfFusion - Rafael Sotomayor - Inner Voice

Here's a duo playing the same instrument in the
ancient Roman city of Bath, England, again, just
exquisite!

Now, this is different again, this chap I've met
a couple of times, lovely fella - John Crampton
-- just have a listen, you've seen just a small
part of my ecletic music collection so far, you
know it'll be worth it.

Again, beautiful!

Enjoy it! (Tequila Blues)

Must go to bed, just gone 7am lol, another
all nighter put in.

G'night folks - enjoy life!

Mark Andrews...

I just found this old classic, trying to
remember what year this came out?

I'm hazarding a guess here 1984?
(Blimey, it can't be 25 years years
old already, can it? Time certainly
flies)

Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag:

I thought this was so far ahead of
it's time when it first came out, it's
a great piece of music for it's day,
especially given the rest of the
mainstream music that was around
during this time - this was completely
and utterly different.

Enjoy!

I like that song Mark, but I don't think it was ahead of it's time really. It is more reflective of what was going on at the time. Not in "mainstream" music of course, but there were quite a few others combining jazz, reggae, rock, third world music, etc.. and following the lead of people like Miles Davis, Sun Ra and others years earlier.

Others doing similar music that were around the time of Papas Got A Brand New Pigbag were Bill Laswell, The Golden Palominos, James Blood Ulmer, Oliver Lake, Ornette Coleman...

Here's a song by the Golden Palominos in the early 80s:

I guess I am one of the only ones that gets such a big charge out of bag pipes (and no it's not the guys in kilts and/or uniforms)

Something very spiritual and emotional about them no matter what country they are coming from. Here are some good ones.
