I Need Mac Photo Editing Help! Save Me!

A dramatic title, but I really need the help of my Warrior friends once again!

I want to create a desktop background for my laptop. It's a Mac, and I have got about 8 photos downloaded from the Internet that I would like to include in this montage. I want to see all the things I desire in one place as my desktop background, everyday to focus my mind on getting the things that I want.

But I don't know how to do this with iphoto or any of the free software out there.

Can anyone tell me a simple way of doing this, and can anyone recommend some good software etc to help make this happen? This photo editing/graphic design noob needs help!

    Well...

    If you PM me your screen resolution (I'm using 1440 X 900, as an example) and the photos, I'll put them together for you and PM you back a .jpg that you can use for your screensaver.

    You can download GIMP, and become your own graphics guru, as well.

    You can look at my sig file if you want to see some of the things you can do with GIMP (it's like Photoshop, only FREE).
