"

Mr Putin said his country's economy was much more developed than before and had a much higher safety margin.
"We have no systemic problems in the Russian economy. All basic economic indicators are alright," he said. High oil prices helped Russia recover from the economy's collapse in 1998. Analysts say the country is now virtually free of debt, boasts massive currency reserves and has a more diversified economy. "

The UK used to have an economy like that before everything
of any worth was sold off to private enterprise.

And the UK itself have now become the playground of Russian billionaires...

Of course, if you welcome and grovel to these shady characters with open arms, you must take in the consequences (read Litvinenko affair)

Lol, I know ...I am British. We also have billionaires from all around
the world .... which mainly is a good thing because they are investing
and spending huge sums. The exception is Donald Trump, who seems to
think he can buy out an unspoiled piece of Scotland to build yet another
bloody golf course on ..which we do not really want or need.

The important thing is not to become over-reliant on any
one particular other nation or doctrine/dogma.

Anyone who actually knows the British people, soon realises
that we do not grovel to anybody ... not even our own
government or the US. Currently, most of the problems
British people are facing directly result from
the "Special Relationship" successive UK governments have
had with successive US Administrations and their policies
      and practices.

        I noticed Blair ran away.
He's over here now and got himself a sweet job at a university.

Mike, I am a British citizen as well who have lived, studied and worked in the UK for many years. The British used to be most righteous, honorable, and non-greedy people whom you can really trust to do business with. The moral and ethical standards in public and private life was the among the highest in the world. I cannot help but notice a huge deterioration in moral and ethical standards in recent years, especially since Blair came to power.

The British people may not be groveling, but the government certainly is. Why does the Blair government allow the Russian billionaires to keep their private armies of bodyguards in London? Both the labour and conservative parties have taken loads of donations from billionaires overseas. If the UK government hadn't given asylum to Boris Berezovsky (another suspected Rusisian billionaire crook), then the Litvinenko affair may not have happened. The fact is that the Blair government was attracting all these shady characters to launder their money in the UK.

I am not against the extremely wealthy settling and investing in the UK. I am just against those who made their money in a shady and corrupt manner. Not only that, they are taking their gang wars to the UK. I am saying this because I am watching all this with sadness.
