Default The Gunpowder Plot of November 5th 1605

In the year 1605 Guy Fawkes attempted
to blow up the King and the Houses of
Parliament to kingdom come on November
the 5th.

The event came to be known as
The Gunpowder Plot.

Guy Fawkes plot was foiled and the
traitor was burned at the stake for
his misdeeds.

To this day tens of millions of people
across the nation light fireworks and
burn effigies of Guy Fawkes (known
as 'guys') on bonfires.

In addition to private parties, there are
thousands of events in pub gardens and
professional firework displays organised
by sports clubs and local authorities.

More information on this annual event
can be found here:

I'm glad you clarified that! V was a series that was around about 20 years ago, and they did a remake of it JUST LAST WEEK! FOX is talking about it like the idea is totally new, and relating it to current events in a way TL wouldn't like.

Apparently the V was for VICTORY!

But HEY, TL, the old one was a NICE series, and the new one may be about as good, so go ahead and watch it! 8-)

Yes, V For Vendetta, but it is NOT about Guy Fawkes as much as the "hero" is fashioning himself after Fawkes.

Seasoned- I didn't watch the "new" V, but and you can correct me if I am wrong, I believe it is at least the 3rd time it has been redone, not the second.

As a sy-fi buff, I couldn't resist watching it - this time with the kid.

What's the stuff from Fox that I wouldn't like???

How on Earth could FOX relate the sy-fi stuff to what's happening now?

Oh, I get it, we're all being conned, just like the aliens tried to do in the series V right?

LOL

Please enlighten me on Fox's latest activities regarding the series V.

Wait a minute, is this a Glenn Beck production?

It’s a mixed reaction. Nowadays many people would sympathize with the position of Catholics in England, terribly persecuted for their faith. Moreover, Fawkes himself and the other conspirators were extensively tortured before being hanged, drawn and quartered. (I won’t go into the details, but it’s not one of the pleasanter ways of being executed.) Against that, one can see the plot in the light of current terrorist attacks. The plan was to blow up the whole Parliament, including the king’s children – a fact which caused particular horror at the time.

Fawkes, by the way, was described as “a man of great piety, of exemplary temperance, of mild and chearful demeanour, an enemy of broils and disputes, a faithful friend, and remarkable for his punctual attendance upon religious observance".
