Tyler Leaves Aerosmith & Cranberries Reunite

Two things you would have never figured.

Before I share the two songs I chose (one is obvious) I want to give a
shout out to the unsung heroes of pop and rock and roll...the songwriters.

This one in particular, IMO, may be the greatest one of our time who isn't
also a performer. She's written for many bands and has had some of the
biggest records in the last 25 years.

Some of her songs include:

"If I Could Turn Back Time" - Cher
"When I See You Smile" - Bad English
"Because You Loved Me" - Celine Dion
"I Get Weak" - Belinda Carlisle

And this one by Aerosmith, IMO, their best. Of course. It was written by
somebody who actually knows how to write.

I'm talking about Diane Warren.

Anyway, here they are...

Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" and

The Cranberries' "Zombie"

Two classics.

Enjoy!

    This is only my opinion...

The first video is a prime example of why Aerosmith is no longer one of my favorite bands. Some may think it's a great song, and maybe from a songwriter's point of view it is. From my point of view it's formulaic.

Aerosmith has had a few songs I have liked since Permanent Vacation, but they are the exception, rather than the rule. As I mentioned in another post, it's not that they suck, it's just that my tastes have changed over the years.

Now, the second video is an example of just how good the Cranberries could be. My wife and I saw them on the south stage (the smaller one) at Woodstock '94 and they were really good live.

I hope they do well and have continued success.

Also, as far as Aerosmith goes, this is not the first time they broke up. Still, I hope they do well in all of their musical ventures as well.

    Rock on!

I believe there comes a time when some bands should simply let it go. I loved Aerosmith in their earlier days.

A few years back on some MTV awards show (or something) when they did Dream On with a full orchestra, that did it for me.

As a song goes, it was done well, but in my opinion, they ruined the song.

When rock icons start remaking their songs with full orchestras or all acoustic, to me that means they should protect their legacy and bow out.

Never liked much of what they did from the time the reunited. But that's just me

There are a few similarities in their appearance. But, um, I assume Liv also had a mother. Oh well, that's genetics for you.

Real rock and roll has never been a beauty contest.

Real rock and roll fans could care less what a performer LOOKS like.

That being said...I agree with you!!!

Nope, never married him. From her site:

"By the fall of 1976, my relationship with Todd (Rundgren) was on the rocks. I had an affair with Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, producing what is and always will be my proudest life achievement: my daughter, Liv."

Yeah, I remember when she was with Todd. That was around 1974 or so.

            Man, time flies.

Joe Perry has already gone on record as saying they are looking for
another singer, not to replace Tyler but to launch Aerosmith into the
next bigger and better phase of their career.

      Yeah, right Joe.

And I got some real estate in my backyard to sell you.

Very good news about the Cranberries. I always thought they were highly underrated.

Aerosmith never really did it for me anyway. Just average and as Michael says 'formulaic'.

Fascinating. This has always been the part of music appreciation that has
fascinated the hell out of me, how two people can listen to the same song,
one can smile from ear to ear and the other can be left stone cold dead.

It is the one thing that keeps me sane when it comes to my own music.

What chance do I have when there are people out there who hate a Diane
      Warren song?

      Fascinating...just fascinating.

Diane Warren is awesome. I took her songwriting class at UCLA in 1990 and she´s one of the best songwriters ever.

I never said I hated Diane Warren or her songwriting.

I said Aerosmith has never done anything for me.

    Two different things entirely Stephen.

As a dancer my main focus is always the instrumentation. There are few songs that I even pay attention to the words. Even when not dancing.

Now don't get upset - I love words and have written since I was a teenager. My writing ritual (other than for IM) I am sure will be very difficult for you to understand.

Why? Because I burn it. Always have - may save notebooks until there is a box but there is something about this that sends it into the cosmos. yuk yuk - I don't know why maybe self-hatred.

Actually in Tibet they have rituals where they do paintings in the sand - they stay on their knees for days grinding stones to make beautiful colored sand and then create intricate mandalas in the sand.

The end of the ritual is to blow it away - wreck it.

It means everything is temporary. Everything is a burden that is not pure white light.

I guess that is how I feel about my thoughts and words.

Lucky or unlucky as the case may be, Tom Hamilton is a skype contact of mine and I can safely say that as of last week, there will be no reunion between Steve Tyler and Aerosmith. This as most will know, has been brewing for some time, with the band having separate dressing rooms for quite a while now.

Between 40yrs of Aerosmith and the same of Sesame Street, I know which one will outdo the other
