I want to bay a laptop but the difficulty is i have no information about laptops.

MANY have good and bad points. portability, durability, general use, patience, past experience, amount of time you plan to keep it, etc... ALL come into play with what you should get.

With ME, I basically wanted a FAST and compatible laptop, so I got one. I today have a TINY and slower one. It SEEMS like a step down, but it is more portable, I can use it on the plan, and use it for a long time with NO outlet. Still, for all it has, it is lacking.

You need to be more specific. What will you use it for? And what is your budget?

I could link you to a laptop I considered the overall and absolute "best", but you'd be betting on a $10,000+ price tag, before software/accessories/etc., and that might be an underestimate. (And it might even be completely worthless to you still, if we have different core preferences/needs.)

The one that you will use... seriously. Don't over think it. If you are not a techie, then the best thing you can do is go to a few stores, tell the associate what you are going to use it for and listen to their recommendations.

Prices have come down considerably and technology advances so fast that you are going to want to replace it in a couple years.

BAD advice! I went to a store, asked the right questions, and the "associate" LIED!!!!!! I didn't check things out until AFTER I did most of the restore, and decided to keep it, but MAN did it cause me trouble!

And technology does NOT always improve, etc.... Heck, they ABANDONED a lot of things with NO included standard, etc... They needlessly changed other standards. And I will NEVER forget buying a printer and finding that one of their "improvements" was FORGETING ABOUT THE MANUAL! I spoke with them for like a WEEK before they even admitted they had one, and they wanted $99 for it! Had they done that with the first printer, HP probably would have gone BANKRUPT! They owe a LOT of income to their printers, licenses, etc...

So DON'T just buy from an "associate". If you are in the MIDDLE of a trend, you may end up ok with almost anything, as long as it is new. If you are on either side, FORGET IT!

The bottom line is "what would you like the laptop for"?

If you would like portability I would go with an ASUS EEEPC, I really like how small and portable they are with surprising battery life.

I have used HP and Dell simultaneously for work and home and I would say that DELL is far better than HP in being practical and user friendly.

I have also upgraded to a 22 inch DELL monitor and connected it to my Laptop. Now my laptop acts as a desktop when I am @ home.

And I will recommend an HP over Dell any day. Why? Because of the difference in their tech support. Dell's support sucks.
Once they made me register a machine before they would even tell me if they had a part available.
With HP I have had their tech support help me even when the warranty had obviously expired.
      HP FTW.

I use two laptops: A MacBook and a Toshiba Satellite. The MacBook cost twice as much as the Toshiba and I think its far superior in every way to a Windows computer, but I needed a computer running Windows for some of the work I do.

Kim, **********WATCH OUT***********!!!!!!!! Like I said, the HP printer "tech help" are a bunch of MORONS!!!!!! They kept INSISTING that I didn't need a manual, because I could just use the DRIVER! I said NO WAY, it DOESN'T EXIST!!!!!! I NEED the information for software I am writing! And they asked me what word processor I am using. I said "Not that it matters, but I am using VI!"! They asked what application I am using. I said MY OWN, I WROTE IT!

As I told them before they went wildly on that MORONIC line of questioning, there is NO standard for what I wanted to do! NONE! I was doing it on SCO which has NO STANDARD drivers for such things ANYWAY! I was writing my OWN software! ALL I needed to know was the details on their PCL enhancements. They didn't even know what PCL or Printer Control Language was!!!!

They EVEN wanted me to switch to THEIR version of windows, and use Word Perfect! OK, that gives me ANOTHER set of problems! HOW do I get my program to dump such information into word perfect!?!?!? MAN are they IDIOTS!

I had these problems BEFORE the internet was opened up, and this was a BRAND NEW printer which was perhaps the FIRST in the world to have this version of the PCL, but LOOK:

    +hp +pcl - Google Search

STILL 1,810,000 hits on google for it. Probably their most widely popular licensed product, perhaps even to this day, and "tech support" had NO idea! So don't tell ME they have great tech support!

Ironically, that very first document would probably have answered all of my questions! Too bad I needed them answered like 13 YEARS ago!

Did you see the first computers HP had? ******JUNK*******! Perhaps THAT is why they never sold!

That is IRONIC as an engineer EARLIER told them about this computer he designed, because he wanted to be honest, etc... They said FORGET IT! It does NOT fit into our product line.

WHO was that engineer? A young guy by the name of Steve Wozniak.

Steve Wozniak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OK, maybe SOME don't know who he is. The computer he offered them came to be called the Apple I. He started a company called Apple!

Like I said, HP wasn't too bright!

I would suggest a Macbook Pro. Although I don't have the newest one, they are sleek n'sexy and packed with useful extras that internet marketers would likely use. I used to have a Dell and an HP... always had issues surfing the web with them.

Steve is getting all worked up about HP.

I have an old faithful tucked away in the corner of my office that's always on 24/7. It's an HP pavilion with XP that I bought in 2004 from WalMart for $350.

Since then my employees have burned up 4 Dells and 3 clones, and I've trashed a Gateway laptop and 2 Acer laptops. My Toshiba is getting close.

But that ugly dusty HP is just sitting over there with its big blue launch button glowing, waiting for me to go touch her again.

I'm not really getting worked up about HP, I'm just saying that their "tech support" STINKS!
They HAVE made some nice computers, but they could have TAKEN OVER the market in the 70s, and they DIDN'T! They TRIED in the early 80s, and IT WAS A JOKE! NOW, they use the IBM compatible format. They DO have the HP9000, but that is for business. BTW I'm not crazy about DELL either, or COMPAQ, which HP bought!. Most others I couldn't say much about.

I have to agree with Steve on HP laptops. The one I had had the worse reliablity record of any laptop. I vowed never to touch HP again.

Now I almost use IBM/Lenovo exclusively. I am a extremely rough user to the extent that several of them literally disintegrated physically. However, whenever I had a problem with an IBM/Lenovo, it is usually fixed within the same day. So far, I have had eight for personal and business use. My current model is an X301 which has a 128G SSD Flash Drive. It is almost as light as most netbooks and emit very little heat.

Another important issue was that I could not stand the mousepads at all and much prefer the pointing stick devices on IBM/Lenovo.

I have to say that, for the money, the EEE is GREAT! TINY, LIGHT, Long lasting battery, 2GB is a fair amount of memory, 160GB disk, wifi, camera, XP, external monitor port, RJ45, 3 USB ports, memory card slot, etc.... and you usually don't notice the slower CPU.

In my opinion Mac pro is the best laptop
I have had dell , sony, and toshiba windows is ok but since vista debut. the only os i feel is really solid is server.
sounds funny but all my windows boxes i use server and never ever have issues or hangups. so for laptops i use mac cause they are soo fast booting and solid runing.
not to mention its superb graphics and speed for dvds and video editing. its the bomb.
yes there is a small learing curve but most apps you want on windows you can have on mac.

I stay away from Compaq laptops because I had one (pre-hp buyout) that had several serious problems. First the motherboard had to be replaced, then the hard drive crashed. That amounted to more repairs than I paid for the laptop. Fortunately, I had both repairs done under the retailer's extended warranty at no cost.

Although, I did milk four years out of it. Eventually, the monitor hinge assembly design couldn't stand the stress of being opened/closed repeatedly and the frame around the screen cracked.

In addition, I never got more than one hour of battery life, even when it was brand new.

BTW, I don't buy extended warranties on my laptops anymore as I feel the ones that I now buy are cheap enough to "self-insure".

I was originally going to buy a Lenovo laptop but I got more features for the same price with my Dell Inspiron 1525. I haven't had any problems with it and I've owned it since June 2008.

You should check a site like PC World. They often do customer surveys where computer equipment users (computers, printers, cameras etc.) rate manufacturers on issues such as Tech Support, Vendor reliability etc. Dell and Apple were at the top of the list for computers in the last one I saw.
