I have a new website as of August 2009
crreferrals.com
I have been having a lot of trouble with my emails not going through and was blaming my host. I found out today that my IP has been blacklisted by a few different entities.
196.40.10.247
When I look deeper into things it appears there has been trouble with this IP dating back to 2004.
Is it possible to be given a bad IP from the get go? Can I demand a clean IP from my service provider? will that fix these issues?
This is a nightmare and I don't know how to proceed.
Bottom line I need a fix.

Thank -you for your responses

looks like you have an email that belongs to a pretty heavy spammer. i'd find another isp.

What kind of internet connection do you have? You can probably just change it now without having to contact isp. However, you can definitely get a new one from your isp no problem.

        Steve,
From this guys response I think he is mistaking a website IP with an internet connection IP.

Well, I don't know what you mean by "website IP", but my question was just to see what he would say. The IP is used to say "I'M the computer you were looking for". That gives you TWO problems:

          1. You have to be the ONLY one that is saying that! If someone else says that, things go crazy.
          2. The router has to tell everyone else "The IP you are looking for is HERE! THAT of course means that ITS router, etc..., has to say "Someone on the other side knows about the IP you are looking for".

To make a long story short, that means that YOUR ISP has to inform all below them, and the lowest one has to inform IANA that they have the IP, and they have to direct it to your system.

It is FAR more involved than some may think at first glance. It is like changing your address to another street. That is so INCREDIBLY complicated, that people just usually take all their belongings, shut down all accounts, move to a place ALREADY at the new street, and start everything back up again. SURE, you COULD petition to change the street name, but what if they won't do it? What if such a street already exists? You have to let everyone know about the street name change!

And there is ANOTHER problem with IP addresses. USUALLY the routers deal with RANGES. So people may have to get new routers for the IP you want.

          Steve
