Fanta - the drink of Nazis

I wonder if Fanta lovers were aware that their favourite tipple was the "Drink Of Nazis".

It was created by The Coca Cola Company to ensure they (CCC) could still make money in Nazi Germany. They couldn't be seen to sell their flagship beverage to both sides, so they came up with Fanta.

Following the unpleasantness of 1939-45, CCC then had two drinks to sell to the world.

    That's completely untrue.

Before the war, Coca-Cola was very popular in Germany. But, during the war, Coca-Cola in Germany was cut off from Coca-Cola in the US, so they were acting independently. The (German) management (who weren't Nazis) were unable to source the necessary ingredients to continue making regular Coca-Cola, so they came up with an alternative drink using the ingredients they did have available.

Nazi party members may have been among those who bought the new drink, but it was created to sell to ordinary German citizens. (Most Germans weren't Nazis; there are 6 times more Republicans in the US than there were Nazis in Germany.). That doesn't make it the "drink of the Nazis". By the reasoning, you could say that bottled milk is the "drink of the Nazis", since they drank that too.

    Tommy.

Yeah, why do you think Hitler had the youth groups, the enemies lists, etc... ALSO, people can say what they want, but a number of Jews in germany SURVIVED because regular germans RISKED THEIR LIVES!

      Right!

The Nazis were pros at creating a climate of hate/fear/retaliation/I need to protect my behind etc. and any German that helped Jews and the other undesirables was indeed brave.

The Nazis treated Max Smelling like a dog after he lost to Joe Louis in 1 round in the true...

... fight of the century as more people listened to that fight than any other fight in history and the Nazis were thoroughly embarrassed as their master race theory was demolished for the whole world to see.

It's Schmeling, not Smelling. That's hardly a good illustration of any pro- or anti- race theory though (as if boxing could be anyway), since he lost on a technical knockout (meaning he didn't actually get knocked out). In fact, the whole thing was pretty controversial because pictures of the fight appeared to show him on the receiving end of illegal punches.

Funny you should bring him up in the context of this thread though, as he was an executive in the German branch of Coca-Cola after the war.

Incidentally, he saved the lives of 2 Jewish teenagers on the Kristallnacht, and even had a Jewish manager. During the war, he was a paratrooper and fought in the Battle of Crete and, when interned after Germany's surrender, regularly gave autographs and posed for pictures with Allied soldiers.

Who said a boxing match is any type of indicator of any sort of racial superiority?

          Not me.

I know the guy was not a Nazi and he and Joe Louis became good friends.

And he did get the s**t beat out of him in the fight of the century in what would have been a super propaganda coop for the Nazis.

The only reason it was a technical knockout was because Mr. S's corner people ran out to stop it.

Here's the footage... ( you can start at 3 minutes into the video )

That so-called illegal punch you alluded to was because Mr. S. slightly turned away.

The footage shows that he was well, on his way out before that happened anyway.

The guy was holding on to the ropes.

I heard wrong about the Nazi's rise to power?

I bet you wouldn't bet your life on it.

The Nazis thought so. To not only be beaten by a non aryan, but what was in the eyes of the aryans in the nazi party a subhuman, barely able to be called a human was a huge deal.

Schmelling may not have believed that way, but you can bet all his supporters in the nazi party did. If he would have won that would have been a HUGE PR shot for the nazis, proving their superiority over the world...atleast to themselves anyway.

Well, isn't that what makes a technical knockout a technical knockout!? Besides, you could say, "The only reason..." about the outcome of any fight (or any thing, for that matter).

Holding on to the ropes means diddly squat. I was at a boxing match earlier this year where the challenger was flattened three times, and was practically swinging out of the ropes... but he still won in an 11th round knockout.

Yes, you heard wrong. Geez... am I the only one who had to study history in school!?

The Nazis arose when a number of nationalist groups formed towards the end of WW1 amalgamated themselves into the German Workers' Party (DAP). The DAP came to the attention of German Army Intelligence and one Corporal Hitler was ordered to investigate them. To cut a long story short, he ended up joining them and used his oratory skills to help swell the membership, especially among young unemployed men, of which there were plenty, given that the German economy was in ruins at the time.

Part of the reason it was in ruins is because the Treaty of Versailles stripped Germany of its colonies, its energy sources, and, most significantly, demanded the payment of reparations far beyond its ability to ever pay. This, along with the fact that the Entente powers basically changed the terms of surrender after the Germans had accepted them, caused huge bitterness and resentment. It was seen as a national humiliation, which Hitler capitalised upon by promising to put a stop to it.

So... far from financing the Nazis to help Germany pay for WW1, the Allies did the opposite and, by doing so, inadvertently helped Hitler's rise to power.

In short, the Entente/Allies didn't finance the Nazis and there was nobody for Hitler to double cross.

              I say...

              Not that time.

90% of the time holding on to the ropes spells doom.

I done a bunch of studying of history with official and unofficial sources also.

I think most serious Jr. historians can agree that what is promulgated to to masses is not always the whole story.

I never said official reps from England and the U.S. helped Hitler come to power.

I said/meant concerns such as bankers and/or powerful N.G.O. financial concerns helped him with financing etc.

Lots of people in high positions in England & America thought Hitler was someone that wouldn't be the worst thing to happen to Germany and perhaps they would finally start paying their war bills.

              Stability.

But as I said earlier, he disappointed and double crossed those folks ( his financiers ) and the rest is history.

              Question???

              How did Hitler become Chancellor?

The idea of international private financing for the Nazi party has never been shown to be anything more than an ill-defined conspiracy theory.

Lots of non-Germans might have thought he was a great fella at the time but it's a bloody big leap from that to actively financing him.

What isn't ill-defined is the fact that, apart from funding received from the party membership, most money came from German multi-nationals. Any that did come from private non-German sources (if any) wouldn't have been sufficient to sway the Nazis towards any particular course of action. (Also, Germany's "war bills" weren't owed to private businesses anyway.)

I know how he became Chancellor, but I'm sure I'm wrong, and the true story features some super-secret all-powerful cabal meeting in London or New York to decide how they'll tell the Germans to procede.

I COULD tell you how the NAZIs "rose to power", but that would hit too close to your home, etc.... HEY, take a look at Adolf Hitler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia You might also want to check out what the nazis main mission was(It was NOT actually anti jewish, etc...). HECK, Just read their organization names and that becomes obvious. Here's a hint! It is in Thomas' post, and the same sort of movement is in the US and has NO ties, or even wants to, with the KKK or nazis! OK, maybe they DO have ties to the KKK, but they don't want to admit it. The KKK could be almost seen as the american version of nazism.

They didn't really need any big financing. Hitler never even really got elected!

HECK, Germany was really pretty POOR! They had the depression with so many others, and had run-away inflation.

NOPE! Ridding the world of anything was NOT a part! It was originally ONLY about the welfare of German citizens! Early writings, the name of their organizations, their chants, their songs, EVEN the term NAZI(national socialism), make that ABUNDANTLY clear. GRANTED, a lot of their problems were exacerbated by NON citizens in Germany, and THAT is where it started to take that famous turn. The ones that were the most obvious and had the most money, were Jewish, and that was the start of some of that.

BTW a LOT of the jewish people that were attacked, etc... seemed very caucasian. Heck, because of things like esther, many of them may have been. So I don't know how people could say it was just simply them against caucasions. ALSO, the brownshirts took over and perverted the churches, so it wasn't about religion EITHER!

One may or may not be surprised at the number of
