I just recently looked at google hot trends for keyword ideas and saw Clay Aiken number 1 and he was on there several more times. I didn't understand why he became so popular all of a sudden. Then I saw the top news story that he came out of the closet. So now I know why he's #1 on Google hot trends right now.

He had a baby is old news but he never officially came out. That's why it's allegedly "big news" now. Supposed to be on the cover of the next People magazine.

I hate the whole celebrity culture and the cult of personality that people build up around it. Who cares if Caly Aiken is gay? Who cares if Tom Cruise is a Scientologist? Who cares who Barbra Streisand is voting for? People really need to learn to think for themselves and stop following celebrities.

And that's why I get *annoyed* when I check out the news headlines and half the alleged "news" is all about celebrities. Who cares what Britney Spears did today and so on and so on. But apparently I must be in the minority because people are saying this is the type of stuff people want to see and this is what sells.

Oh I agree as much and as vehemenently as humanly possible When we live in a world full of other important news and happenings, realizing that half the televised news and 1/3 of the printed news covers celebrity gossip is infuriating. This is certainly what sells, and as much as it saddens me to say this, more people are interested in this than any genocide in Darfur, bombing in Pakistan, election in South Africa or any of the other major world events happening right now. Of course these are the same people who vote in American Idol but not in a presidential election.

  Oh, you are almost certainly right in that statement. There are more people who recognize the McDonald's logo than the Canadian flag. There are more people in the world who know the whole origin story of Superman or Batman than can even tell you where our current president is from. People have no clue about the real issues in the world, but know far more about BS pop culture than I will know in my whole life.

I must confess...I came out of the closet once...and man, was she ever mad when she found out I was hiding in her closet when she was changing clothes!

It's just a publicity stunt. Celebrities have to keep their names in the news so we think about them and buy their albums (sorry. CDs.)

As Pat said, who cares? Honestly, why is it anyone's business? (The tabloid shows are hungry for stories, so they made it one.)

I fault him and his publicist for using his sexual orientation in such a manner and any gay rights organization should see it the same way. It's hard to gain respect when you allow corporations to use you in such a manner.

I don't care if you're gay or straight, and I think that's something you should keep to yourself, eh?

Wow this is an old thread, can't believe it came back. Why was it brought back from neverland? Star, it was KAY that said who cares. Some people are "homophobes" and they are the ones that "care". Honestly I get soooooo sick of hearing about celebs in main stream news. Talk about the dumbing down of America.
