My favourite movie, book, album, food All in *1*

Sorry, don't have one. But I'm fed up of people asking me what mine is.. I can barely comprehend that people can have a favourite, DAY IN, DAY OUT. I can see liking something for a short time. But for ALL TIME? It confuses me..

I like a lot of stuff, and it changes day to day.

I don't tend to watch movies more than once unless I'm feeling particularly lazy and someone persuasive makes me. I enjoy movies and I'll often have a movie that I enjoyed in the last week, or even month. But a favorite one EVER? I don't think so. I'm not the same person I was a a month ago, let alone a year ago or 10 years ago, so how someone can have a 'favorite movie' without living in some kind of stasis confuses me. Movies stay the same, people don't.

Album? See movie, except I really enjoy listening to albums many times. However my tastes change over time, so again my 'favourite' is more of the moment than of a lifetime. Furthermore I'll tend to have several favourites at a time, not just one. Even if there is an AMAZING new album I'll still have moments where I'm into a different style of music. There can't ever be a fewer than 2 favourite albums at a time.

Food? That's just silly, it really depends on my mood and the occasion. I like dozens and dozens of foods and dislike very few (silkworm chrysalids are my current dislike). I often have a "food I want to eat right now", but I don't have a "favourite food" of all time. I guess the concept of a 'sandwich' might win out, but sandwiches can come in so many shapes, sizes and flavours that I think they are too broad as a subject.

Books? Hmm. I like a lot of books. A LOT. Too many to choose a favourite. I do take some pleasure in re-reading books, but each reading has to be about 5 years apart at least. I'll often have a good book recommendation to give, but it will be a book that I recently enjoyed rather than the favourite book of my life to date. I'm not a 14 year old female Twilight fan or a 12 year old Harry Potter fan.

Conclusion: Please don't ask me what my favorite X is. It's a question I can never answer and would feel sad about if I COULD answer. I don't have one, and I won't. Anyone else feel the same? Anyone else have this problem with these perennial social questions?

Don't feel bad. I totally understand how you feel. I too am not much of a movie/tv watcher and I don't read book and I listen to all kinds of music.

As far as movies go, if you like all kinds of movies, you can't really say that you have a all time favorite without breaking it into categories like horror, action, romance, comedy. You might have a "favorite" in each category. I don't have a favorite movie either, but I like many that I've watched. And I don't watch them again unless they were really good. I don't make a habit of watching re-runs on TV unless there is absolutely nothing on or it was a favorite show at the time, like "The Cosby Show".

I like all kinds of music and I don't have a favorite song.

I don't read books, so I can't really help in that category. But all in all, you are not alone when it comes to that favorite thing. I totally get it.

It's quite clear cut for me for the first two -

      1. Favourite Movie - Shawshank Redemption

      2. Favourite Book - Intruders in the Night

      3. Favouirte Food - Probably Indian Curry

      That was'nt so difficult.
