Nazi Guard on trial

MUNICH -- A German court put John Demjanjuk on trial Monday to face charges of being an accessory to the murder of 27,900 Jews at a Nazi death camp, and his lawyer immediately accused the court of bias.


Does anyone else see this as a serious waste of time? The man was already arrested, tried and spent 7 years in an israeli jail and THEN the israelis said they had the wrong man and let him go. Now another group is trying to say that this old retired ohio autoworker is yet another man, from a completely different prison camp, with a completely different Army.

They have no eye-witnesses (everyone is dead), and the only pictures they have are from the 30's that look nothing like this 90 year old man they have on trial. He's terminally ill, 89 years old and if he is the person they say he is, he was a fricken guard, not even an officer. How can this be considered justice?

    In the grand scheme of things, pointless.

    However, 99.9% of everything we do is.

    Well if it is how you describe it's totally pointless. I don't know the details though.

    But I'll say this: in these times of moral relativism, Nazis are not seen as evil as they should! I'm a WW2 nut, and I was at times fascinated with Nazis (though not in the sense of being one!) They are as ruthless and evil as any organization ever could be. No doubt about it.

      Sure, but aren't we punishing an individual for the crimes of a society when we do things like this? Would be a lot different if there were living witnesses and solid proof of his identity. This just seems like round two of a kangaroo court.

    I think its very hypocritical. There isnt an army in the world (except maybe switzerland) that doesnt have some kind of heinous actions in their history if they have ever been to war. War itself is an atrocity.

    Actually, the NAZIs were a political party! If you want to say they were evil, you might as well say so many others are. Like some of the worst parties, the NAZIs were basically FORCED to be NAZIs. SURE, some WANTED to be! Some wanted to hurt people. THEY were the evil ones! OTHERS were almost TORTURED to be. Some of THOSE even risked their lives to SAVE people. EVEN JEWS! Were THEY evil? NOPE!

    Hey, ever see hogans heros? GRANTED it was a comedy, but it showed a lot of TRUTH!     It is a nice movie, and I actually watched a documentary on it where they interviewed some of the people it was based on! Were some of those NAZIs EVIL!? YEP! One guy collected as MANY as he could, claimed to be taking them back to camp, had them do a little work, and gunned them ALL down! Yet there were scenes with NAZIS bartering with them and talking about the end of the war, AS FRIENDS. Some made it, some came back, and most died.

    Do I think this is a waste of time? YEP! There are WORSE things than NAZIs out there now, EVEN if you are JEWISH!
