"Most third-party developers are retarded" comes to mind.

If I were to speculate on the cause of this, I'd say that certain security software thinks certain specific files are never supposed to change. Microsoft legitimately updated one of those files, and the software either wouldn't let it make the update or rolled back the changes during a scan - so now the system doesn't work because the files are out of sync.

But nobody really cares, and they'll blame Microsoft for what is ultimately someone else's fault. As usual.

Uh... MICROSOFT created dependencies that THEY then ignored which caused OFFICE 97 to ******FAIL*******! Since they couldn't have that, they programmed it to DESTROY the condition THEY depended on! That caused VB5(v?) to fail! Since it failed because of a RUNTIME dependency, ALL software created with it ALSO failed.

It was MICROSOFTS idea to have people do an ASSERT on a null pointer!

It was MICROSOFTS idea to create a new version of crystal reports and NOT even have its stupid software realize that 5.0 is greater than 4.5!

It was MICROSOFTS idea to DEPEND on "VM".

It was MICROSOFTS idea to not really recover memory.

I'm sure, given the time, I could load BOOKS with such garbage. But don't go saying that microsoft is innocent!

That's precisely what I'm on about!

Crystal Reports is not, and has never been, a Microsoft product.

        Thank you for your support.

******WRONG******! They LICENSED crystal reports for VB, and made a special version for it! 4 and 5 were C/R products. 4.5 was M/S!

For that matter, they ALSO licensed SYBASE and SQL SERVER 99 was the FIRST version to deviate from the sybase code in any meaningful way.

BTW my beef THERE was not that THEY had their own C/R version, but that ******THEIR****** software(supposedly 100% THEIR software) did NOT know that 4.5 was less than 5.0, and kept asking to "upgrade"!

and as they (Microsoft) wrote the Operating System, shouldn't they have made sure that 3rd party software can't knacker it. Afterall, all 3rd Party software uses their APIs. You can't read and write files to a Windows File System without making a call to the Windows OS to do it.

Still, it makes way for the next wave of upgrades!!!

Microsoft isnt innocent, but hardware manufacturers are notorious for using new o.s. releases as a way to push their new products.
