Deforestation is a major concern. Everyone should plant a tree.

I spent many years with chainsaw in hand cutting down trees for logging and firewood.
The older the tree the less O2 it produces so I made plenty of room for the young and healthy to be more effective with the CO2>>>>O2 transfer!

I try to get rid of plastics and bring a shopping bag instead. I don't use products that have CFCs which might be harmful to the ozone layer.

To be honest, mostly at the bottom of the sea, in the shape of British ships with French and Spanish cannonball-shaped holes in them.

Step one is use of plastic bags. We can save our environment by re-using our carrier bags every time we shop.

Step two is re-cycling. We can save by using re-cycling objects like glass, paper, tins, cans, bottles ,printers ,mobile/cell phone, telephones, computers and loads of other things . We can recycle any thing from cloth to tins.

We will be contributing in reducing the level of refusals and saving energy also. It is publish that Recycling just two tins of aluminium can save us energy to run TV for 6 hours.

Step three--Be a paper less where possible. As we all know paper come from the trees and trees are best source and contributor to fight against pollution.

Step four is Energy saver bulb. Energy saving bulbs also called energy-efficient light bulbs saves 12 time the conventional bulbs and each bulb save minimum of 100 bugs a year .If every house hold use minimum of 3 energy savers it would save to light street lamps for a year.

Step five--- go Organic. Organic farming use less chemicals and save the environment. It is also better for wild life. Due to use of less pesticide and artificial chemical the environment is less effected and more pollution free.

So go Green, keep the world green, for your self ,for your children and also for your children's children.

The Irish government introduced a 33 cent tax on plastic shopping bags in 2002 (payable by the customer at the check-out), apparently the first such tax in the world. Despite the general unpopularity of taxes of any sort, this particular move was hugely supported by the general public.

Usage of the bags, which were previously given away free by supermarkets, instantly dropped by 94% and now, in 2009, even though they aren't illegal, it has become socially unacceptable to use the bags at all. Everybody keeps several re-usable cloth or heavy-plastic bags in their car boot instead.

Everybody won: the retailers don't have to pay for free bags anymore; the State gets paid if you do actually use them (and the funds are ring-fenced for anti-pollution measures); and the public doesn't have to experience any more plastic bag pollution (Personally, I can't remember the last time I saw a discarded plastic bag anywhere).

      Tommy.

        Hello, all:

My little town (Pop. 2,700) has an awesome recylcing program with
weekly pick-up service, so we try to recycle as much paper, cardboard,
plastic and glass as possible. Our same recycling service takes in old
computers, appliances and other electronics for recycling.

We try to remember our cloth bags when we go grocery shopping and we
quite often refuse bags at other stores (hardware and some department
        stores, etc.)

I am conscientious about energy usage around the home and try to
encourage family members to be the same way.

To conserve water, I've been trying for many, many years to convince
my spouse that we should shower together, but she keeps refusing! (I
        don't understand why ... )

Live a more simple lifestyle, buy only the stuff you need. If we all do this, then this planet will bear the effect of changed human consciousness. Living a life of excessed and extreme materialism only brings pain and misery.

Thanks for bringing up this topic.

Ha Ha ... Good one, I'm with you there.

We can always all chip in and buy the polar bears rafts. Maybe throw in some
      fishing gear.

I didn't have kids so avoided contributing to unhealthy population numbers.

I also don't use plastic bags --and use plastic cups or plates, etc as seldom as I can. Plastic is one of the worst pollutants we've come up with yet. I would much rather use a glass pitcher for tea than a plastic one. Some people stick plastic in dishwashers with that terrible poisonous automatic dish washer soap (kill more kids each year than any other poison in the home) then the soap gets into the pores of the plastic.....next thing you know someone's offering to pour you a big drink from that cesspool of a pitcher. Argh..gag...yuck..no thanks.

Here's a new idea for everyone to help our plants. Pee in the woods. Agricultural scientists say the urea is very good for the plants and unlike solid wastes does not contain harmful bacteria. To help your planet, find a nice lush patch of forestry and pee there. Be careful not to pee in the same place all the time or you can burn the smaller and sensitive plants - diversify.

The dog and I have been doing that every night for years. It's hard to get good coverage though and you wind up with a green spot here and there... recently, I've been spinning in circles like a sprinkler while urinating hoping for a better pattern. It's hard to teach the dog though...he just doesn't understand.
