How Do You Tell if you're drinking cheap wine or not?

Hi Y'all

Just wondering, since it's nearly Christmas and all..

Most probably you'll all be drinking some wine and stuff..

How do you know if you're drinking cheap wine or not..

Cause yesterday I bought a bottle worth about 7 dollars..

I didn't expect much about this bottle but now that I'm drinking,
it actually taste good. It's sweet and just mildly bitter for my
taste..Not like the other wine I tasted that's a bit sour.

I mean compared to a martini..this about comes 50% close

Now here's my drunken dilemma..Can I still say that this wine is cheap
because it's only $7 dollars or not since I taste good? I haven't tasted some $5000 or more per bottle wine but for me this taste superb

How about you what will you be drinking this Christmas? I'm thinking of grabbing a bottle of martini for myself on the 25th (Ohh greedy scrooge)
it only cost nearly 11$ here

Merry Christmas Y'all

Omar

    My wife loves:

    Robert Mondavi Private Selection
    Merlot and Chardonnay ($9)
Kendall Jackson Merlot and Chardonnay ($16)

Anything Chilean. Gato Negro is her favorite.

She's really, really picky and says these wines in particular taste really well for the value provided.

    I drink Mojitos.

Reminds of a wine called Night Train...Guns and Roses made a song from it, $5 wine that got them nice and drunk but tasted aweful.

point is, it's perceived value for your problem. perhaps your problem is you want a nice tasting wine but only want one glass, perhaps you just want to get wasted. perhaps you want to drive your 2 mile drive to work in extreme luxury (rolls royce) or perhaps you commute 50 miles daily and want to protect the enviroment and opt for a kia hybrid...

I'll be drinking the best wine for the best value...yellow tail is nice $15 bottle that compares to the $50 bottles, pretty darn close. it's a nice wine and i can get drunk on it and not break the bank.

i will always drive a chevy truck and don't care what it looks like, my sunday car is always spotless. my clothes are a little pricy but nameless, i just want thick clothing that is well made. i'll gladly by last year's 'colors'.

I rarely drink, but I just bought a very nice bottle of rum to mix with my egg nog. i wasted a bunch of money, i can't taste the difference. i'm sure someone would appreciate this 12 y/o aged rum and whatever else they do to it to make it taste better, if it really does taste better!

Wine is fine, but liquor is quicker.

There are some very good inexpensive wines. All one needs to do is try them.

If you open one you decide you don't like, you can always convert it into sangria or use it to cook with.

      Easy fix.

If you tip a glass of fine wine to the side (just enough to not let it spill out the top) and then tip it back up again, fine wines will run down the side of the glass forming fingers or stream like trails. Other than that you just have to smell it and taste it.

um......after a couple of bottles you'll know if it's good or not.

PS - Mad Dog is NOT a fine wine.

Many years ago I managed a off license for a short period and got sent on an intensive course on wine. Technically better wines don't smell as strong and usually are smoother more subtle to taste. It's worth noting also that cheaper wines often use chemicals to preserve the wine. In some people it's these that can get you drunk as much as the alcohol.

It doesn't matter if it's expensive or cheap. What matters most is the you love the taste and that you enjoy drinking it.. :-)

The severity of the hang-over is a decent indication of the quality of the wine...ouch !

I like the Fred Sanford beverage; "Champipple" Champale and Ripple
    Fred's ripple concoctions:

    Muscatel and ripple: Muskatipple
    Cream and ripple: Cripple
    Ripple that's gone flat: Flapple
No champaign, but ginger ale and ripple: Champipple
I like it with Champale instead of ginger ale

Sounds like it has sugar in it. Wine shouldnt really be "Sweet"; Designer drinks are sweet.

That and Wines a bad thing to drink for getting drunk. It's meant to be savoured; If I want to get drunk I'll spring $20 for bottle of liquor.

Me, I'll be opening up a bottle of this (Well uncorking, I only open up wine on special occasions)

    2006 Cheval Blanc

I'm not really a Wine Connoisseur, but my stepfather and mother are; so growing up I was always given the opportunity to taste whatever the wine of the week was. Nothing, and I mean nothing compares to this stuff.

Edit-Saw this was for Christmas. I'm referring to new years :p

Cheap wine generally tastes bad, smells bad, and will give you a headache. However, there are expensive wines that can do that too. Just go with what tastes right.
