Saturday morning cartoons

I happened to turn on the tv this saturday early in the morning and saw the pitiful excuse for cartoons that are on right now. Where is Bugs Bunny? The Roadrunner...wyle e. coyote? What is this garbage children watch today? How are they supposed to properly learn how to drop an anvil on someone or use a big hammer to hit a foot?

Back in the day I was a big fan of pretty much all the Warner bros cartoons (bugs, rr..etc) and stuff like tom and jerry. And saturday morning used to be like a religion. Nobody stayed in bed past like 7am because its time for cartoons!

What were your favorite cartoons?

I'm really interested to hear what kind of cartoons were/are shown in the U.K.

    I'm from India.

The usual Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner stuff is shown here, still and I watch them occasionally. They're quite good. I miss oldies like Flintstones, Jetsons, Rugrats etc. which aren't shown here due to some corporate screw up. (Tom and Jerry is shown but don't like it.)

With that said, some of the new age cartoons aren't bad either. Have you seen Phineas And Ferb or Crayon Shin Chan? Those are my favorites.

But, yeah, most of the things shown these days is crap although Disney has some nice ones.

    Sumit.

Kids are more interested in getting up to play the games on the computer. Cartoons back in the day is all we had.

So I feel that the networks put out junk because they have no clue what kids want to see today.

Even though it really wasn't that long ago, most seem to forget that when a lot of us were growing up there were basically 4 channels to choose from, ABC,NBC,CBS, and a PBS station.

LOL I love Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

One of the things I notice from watching the PC cartoons the kids watch to those ones I used to watch as a kid is the Bugs Bunny show, Casper etc from when I was young were/are really really racist. Like unbelievably so.

We actually just watched the SMURFS last night with the kids, where evil dude makes Smurfette...and yikes was that ever a sexist episode. Heart of hardest stone, crocodile tears, stuff like that was used to make her LOL.

Looney Tunes and all the classic Warner Bros stuff -- also, Bullwinkle and George of the Jungle (those two were made by the same people).

After not watching cartoons for 30 years, I had a kid 3 years ago, so now I'm familiar with many of the current ones (not necessarily by choice). It was a shock how different they are now. Apparently it's a requirement that every single one has some kind of educational lesson to impart -- and certainly no Roadrunner/Tom and Jerry-style violence.

There are a few good ones, but nothing to match Bugs Bunny or the Roadrunner.
