I actually had to scrap ice off my windshield this morning to come to work. Im pretty sure thats against the law in florida or something. I also heard that there is the possibilities of flurries this week.

I see by the news our UK warriors are getting snowed in. Stay warm over there

    That sucks Mike
We're at a balmy 20F. at the moment, friggen heat wave.
I can remember back in the 70's, slipping on the ice outside my camper in Tampa.
The year before that they got 1/2 in. of snow which shut the state down:rolleyes:

      yeah i remember that too.

I hope it doesnt snow here. People in this state can't drive when it sprinkles a little bit of rain. Snow will no doubt cause mass crashes

That always baffled me.I mean when I was there almost everyone I met was from NY or Michigan. But when I think about it, people can't drive in the snow up here either:confused:
Every storm when I go out to plow I see cars off the road every where.

It's been pretty darn cold here in KY too -- plus it has snowed a little bit every day for the last 4 or five days. Not normal here either.

I read somewhere that it's going to be the coldest and hardest winter here in the US in 20 years. Looking that way here!

    Cheers, Michael

We've got about 12" of snow lying at the moment and more forecast for tonight - great! Temperatures just hovering around zero - during the day and dropping to -7 or -8 at night.

Public transport suspended (not that there is much of a service here anyway!!), schools closed, police advising people not to drive unless it is a matter of life and death . . . . . .

    A great start to 2010

Oh well, back to sit in front of the fire!!

It's been snowing in Kent for almost 24 hrs now, which is pretty unusual for this part of the UK. More to come, too, apparently. But hey, I love snow! I don't drive, I work from home, my heating is on and my cupboards are stocked. My blessings are plentiful..

The title of the OP "Is anyone else freezing?"

        To which I respond...

"No. Freezing implies an ongoing process. Once you're frozen, you're done freezing"

I had to scrape ice of myself this morning, never mind the windscreen.

Average winter-time temperatures here are about 5ºC or 6ºC. Over the past few nights, it dropped to about -12ºC or so. Tonight, it'll be between -8º and -10º.

And, wouldn't you know it, it snowed all last night (even though I live right next to the sea), then the Sun came out this morning and melted it before it started snowing again, then it froze, and now it's snowing on top of the ice.

Apparently, it's the coldest winter here for over 50 years. Rain we can handle. That comes just about every day of every week of every year. A bit of snow, however, and you'd think Armageddon had begun: shops are stripped of essential foodstuffs, most roads, except the major routes, are effectively closed (unless 3 m.p.h. is your preferred speed of travel), schools didn't open after Christmas (and probably won't until next week, if even that), businesses are closing down because their staff can't get to work, and the local road authorities have now run out of grit and salt, so even the major roads may not now be treated. They've simply told people to "grin and bear it".

A few days ago, there was a fatal bus crash on a nearby motorway because of the weather. Three or four other cars then crashed into it. Then several cars on the other side of the motor way also crashed because of rubberneckers. Then, an ambulance on route to the crash also crashed themselves, as did a police vehicle, also on route to it.

Today, I went to my brother's house. It's 6 miles away. The journey took over 40 minutes... both ways!

Bring back global warming... all is forgiven!

my sister lives just outside of Miami and she told me last night that they were really cold and that it was around 30 F...

I laughed because I live in Southern Ontario and temps like that and much lower are a fact of life for us every winter. My sister forgets the frigid winters we had growing up in Montreal, because she's been spoiled by either California or Florida weather for the last decade or so.

So Michael, scraping ice of a windshied is one thing...just be grateful you're not shovelling snow yet. :p

see thats what everyone says 'oh 30 degrees isnt that bad..im butt deep in snow' or something similar. But comparatively, last week I rode my motorcycle to work with only a t-shirt because it was 75 deg. We've had a 40 deg. drop in temp in less than 3 days. Right now it sounds like a sick ward in here.

Im orignally from the north as well, and when i first got here i used to laugh at everyone who would be bundled up in 50 deg. weather. But after a few years of the heat here, you become acclimated and 50 deg. is fricken cold when you're used to 80-90's the other 10 months of the year AND you're surrounded by 3 sides of water.

That whole thing people say about florida that 'its not the heat..its the humidity' applies in cold weather too.

    Awwww Florida!
Don't tell me you had to scrape off your windshield!

The snowplow had me up to my wheel wells - snowed another 4-6inches in Wisconsin. Temps down to single digits for the next 3 days....But my car hates it the most.
So, first order of the day - out to dig out my car.
The nice plow guy came back and cleared up after me. Up here in Wisconsin we really do know how to move snow. And the guy was loving it!

I actually feel sorry for the people who live in Florida. Where I am, this time
of year, if it hits 32 it's a heat wave so I'm kind of used to it.

I can imagine it's not fun for the folks who live in 70 plus degree weather
      all year round.

I'm here in Oklahoma and it's COLDER this year than it's ever been the twenty some years I've lived here. It's already snowed more in 2 weeks than it ever does all winter. It's been below freezing for days now and is still getting colder.

The big problem is that I have never had to use more than a hoodie or windbreaker to ever stay warm.

      I don't own a winter coat. :O
