What JMP said, sadly that's true. Most of the Warriors here though are as I would called them proper people, atleast as far as I've read there posts and kept an eye on them, of course I don't know if they're disguising their true intentions as well but yeah, I can say for sure that a VERY big majority are White hatters and I hope that they are proud of it. As am I.

I personally think of these tactics as grey hat and I wish Google would do something so that people didn't have to stoop to this level to compete.
I agree - but I think we're in the minority on that topic.

I think google will make adjustments one of these days - and loads of people will be crying "but it was white hat".

There is a fine line between doing everything you can to promote your sites and using other people's sites to try to manipulate results for yourself.

We each choose for ourselves what methods we are comfortable with.

As you say, many of the tactics from that forum are also on this one. I'd be keen to know which ones you're talking about btw.
Now give value in Yahoo Answers and give your link is not a bad thing surely. Why demanding it to be banned? If doing it properly and giving valuable answers and your links go with the subject matters, no harm done surely? Like everything else, if done badly, it is grey hat, if done properly and give value is white hat. Some one was telling me, there are bots available to make Adsense adverts appeared to be clicked and chalk up credits. Now that is beyond black hat, no way that can be accepted.

Whitehat - Legitimate practices in SEO. Building mailing lists, affiliate marketing, niche marketing..etc.

Gray Hat - this varies...spamming yahoo answers, using stuff like CL autoposters..etc. There are differeing viewpoints on this..hence the term 'grey hat'

Black hat - the stuff that will not only get you in trouble, but give im in general a bad name. email harvesting, spamming..etc. If you have to keep switching emails or how you connect to the internet because you dont want to be found out...then you're probably on the blackhat side of the house.

You can be black hat as you freakin' want to be - just remember that people in here, for the most part, are not stupid and if you are a black hatter, don't expect to last long. People won't buy from someone they aren't sure about trusting. BH methods show a bit of "anything for a buck" attitude that backs people off real fast.

As noted before, sometimes the lines are blurred. I find a lot of BH methods have been very creative and have opened up other routes for me I wouldnt have though of otherwise. I like to think of myself a "take the black at and make it white/gey" kind of guy. But yes, I have seen ALL methods here for sale, IMO.

As you can see, I'm wearing a black hat in a whitehat forum > (sorry couldn't resist the pun)

In all seriousness though, if you're looking for a community of positive, goal-oriented people who push not only for internet wealth, but prosperity in all areas of life... this is it. I lurked a bit at They Who Shall Not Be Named, and sure, they're all for making money... but that's it. These people have no problem undercutting or stealing from others to get ahead - submersing in that negative environment didn't feel very good at all.

I spent a lot of my early days in the Mind Warrior section (don't post there as much as I used to, but it's definitely one of the most valuable parts of the forum) - all major success is 90% mindset and only about 10% technique. Whitehat methods are meant to carry you through the long haul... if you plan to do Internet Marketing for the long-term, this is the place to be.

B-hat practices dont work for long term. If you piss people off (including server admins and isp's) you are going to never have business that stays. People will always be trying to find out ways to get rid of you, isp's will always hunt you like a cheeseburger at a jennycraig meeting, and you will constantly spend a lot of time and resources to find new ways to do what you're doing.

Plus, pay attention to news from other places..like for instance russia. Spammers over there are usually found with caved in skulls or being beat to death with ball-peen hammers, nobody loves a spammer or a farmer on the internet.

So if you want to be one of those guys (or girls) that looks at the internet with the metaphor of it being 'the wild west' and you fancy yourself billy the kid..just remember billy lived on the run and died too young being shot in the back by the sherriff..

      This is just my opinion.

For the most part, I'd say that the majority of the people here are white hat
or at the very least, want to give that impression.

Are there black hat people here? I am sure there are. Just look at some of
      the WSOs.

I'm not passing judgment on anybody. In some areas, there is a very fine line
between the two. Depending on who you talk to, what YOU are doing may
      be white or black.

Ultimately, what it comes down to "technically" is what the sites that
you're violating or not violating think about what you're doing.

If THEY think it's black hat, that's all that matters...you're toast.

Of course in the cases where you are actually breaking the law, then it's
beyond black hat...it's just plain illegal.

I think most people who aren't really heavily into it don't truly know what
black hat is. I admit, I don't. I never studied it, don't frequent any of
those forums unless it's to get them to stop giving my stuff away and have
no intention of ever learning their tactics. Most don't work after a short
      time anyway.

IMO, it's not the best way to build a solid business foundation.

There is no such thing as "White Hat". All forms of site promotion violate someones TOS, especially Google's. The label just makes people feel good about themselves.

The easiest way to think of it is -

White Hat = long term strategies
Black Hat = short term tactics
Grey Hat is obviously in between.

You can get banned from anywhere for anything. Google banned a million dollar per year Adwords advertiser who is a business owner that sells coffee. They refuse to say why and told him to stop emailing them. Coffee.

Illegal is illegal, do it and you're a criminal. That has nothing to do with hat colour.
