Computer problem - Can anyone help?

Hi

For several weeks now, but only now and then, when I try to open
a website (not always the same one) it just does not load. I get the
'loading' tab sometimes for ages, sometimes it times out and tells me
the website or server is not available, etc.

There are a few websites I have been trying to open now for over a week,
without success. Some others I may be able to open if I return to them
next day. One site in particular I contacted to see if there was something wrong at their end, and they very kindly replied and tried to help.

In this instance I get an 'Apache 2 Test Site', even though their correct website address is showing in the address bar. Needless to say there is nothing wrong with their site, and no-one else is having this problem.

I tried pinging their site, and the readings came back fine.

I havbe anti-virus software, and run Spybot regularly, none of which are
showing any activity.

Any suggestions greatfully received.

Have you tried different browsers? Does the problem happen with them also?

What about a different computer. Have you tried that on the same Internet connection?

If the problem happens across various browsers and PCs, the issue could be with your Internet provider.

    Cheers,

Yes about the try a different browser - especially if you are using IE that may be the only problem you have. Try Mozilla and/or Chrome

    Two other issues:

Your PC clock - make sure it is on the right date and time and you can also try to set it to US Eastern time when some sites don't load.

Have you cleared your cache? Particularly when you have been to a site that appears to be in an error state you may keep going back to there instead of a fresh try.

Download free crap cleaner - ccleaner.com and use it regularly - straightens all kinds of errors out - run the main application and then the registry sweep... (recommended by Dell Computer)...

Clearing your cache and trying different browsers are two important things you should do. Could always be your internet provider too, although that is less likely.

There are numerous items that Spybot misses.
I would google Malwarebytes Antimalware program, install it, update it, then run it.
If you still have the problem get Hijackthis and, since I'm guessing your not familiar enough with what to do with it, upload it and follow the advice of whatever expert looks at it for you.
    Good luck.

    Hi everyone

Many thahnks for your comments, I will be trying them out later today.

Why is it that when problems crop up, they never come on their own?
I am battling with burst water pipes at the moment, so time on the
computer limited, unless I want to start swimming.

Thanks again, and I will let you know how I get on, and IF I stay dry!
