What Instrument Do You Play?

After spending some time sifting through things in my parents attic, I found my old trumpet which was "broken" but just needed a tiny fix.

Since I got it working again I've been going to town on that bad boy and it got me thinking about all the different bits of instruments I've picked up over the years. I thought I'd pop in to see what other Warriors love to blast out music on strings, horns, or keys.

So, what instrument do you play, how long have you played, and what type of music if your favorite to belt out?

I have had a guitar for at least 15 years, and I can play it, but not very well. I've never taken lessons and never really sat down to figure it out properly, so I can play some things, but I sound more like I've been playing for a year or two, rather than 15.

      Hello:

I have several guitars kicking around that I've collected over the years and an old, old fashioned foot pump-style organ (you know - the pumps are bellows that push air through the pipes to make the music).

As a teenager (in the late 60s) I played electric base guitar in a couple of bands. We didn't go far. Just a few school sock-hops and community halls.

I've never taken the time to learn music, but I understand the concept and could learn quickly if I chose to. So, on guitar, I basically play chords. And on organs and pianos I taught myself to play chords with both hands when I was a teenager ... and have never progressed from there since! I keep saying I'm going to take piano lessons ...

Funny you should mention a trumpet - I actually found one in my garden the other week . . . .

I had to "root it oot"

Whoa! Gladly i found a topic that is very interesting. Honestly, I am a loner. I am always inside my room, alone in dark and talking to my self. LOL, I played guitar and drums all day. It is my favorite instruments. I already composed 10 songs, all original made by my own vivid mind based from my personal experience and inspired by my mother.

Well, if I hadn't gone into Internet marketing, I would have gone into the
      music business.

While I play piano (32 years) and guitar (seriously for 3 years) my real love
is songwriting. Playing the instruments, for me, is just a means to an ends
in order to get my music heard.

I've got a channel up at YouTube where you can hear some of my tunes.

      http://www.youtube.com/wagtunes

Below is one of them that I submitted just recently to a song contest that
is going to be judged in March. So far, in 26 years of songwriting (Jan 1, 1984)
I've had 2 songs published, nothing recorded, 2 honorable mentions in
previous song contests, and not much else to show for my efforts. But
      I'm not giving up.

Thank goodness I know how to market.

Anyway, here is one of my entrants to the Great American Song Contest.

        Most all percussion instruments.
The 2 categories that I have either little or no experience in are a few of the idiophone's like xylophone and vibrephone, and any of the chordophone's.

Oh yeah, I forgot that I also played the drums and the flute, but that
was so long ago (haven't touched either in about 25 years) that I doubt
I could get much out of either today.

            That's why I didn't mention the Ukelin
I learned a couple of songs on it when I was a kid, now it's packed away in the attic.
Here's what it is and sounds like.

I have played guitar for around 12-14 years. I go on and off with bass. I've played the harmonica about four or five years but its mostly just simple stuff to harmonize with my geet.

I play a little keys but I'd love to actually learn piano. I played the trumpet in high school and I can still play a mean recorder.

I've played the sousaphone (aka tuba) for the marching band at a couple of schools. There's nothing like the power of a sousaphone battle. They're much better in person, but here's a good one...

I've played bagpipes on and off for the last 12 years. I stopped when I had my children, bagpipes and sleeping babies aren't compatible. Funny timing for this thread, I've just found a local pipe band to play with, and am starting to get back into it.

Violin, I have played for over 10 years.

For some reason I've had an obsession with it ever since I was 4. (Note: It was many years later that my parents could afford to get me a violin)

Once I hit my new goal in IM I am buying myself an electric violin and posting pictures as thanks on here.

I find that playing music is just a good way for me to relax and think.

(note: It may have something to do with the fact that I am usually off dating ditzy college girls on the weekends.)

I decided to include one of my favorite violin solos to play, I couldn't find a cover that I really liked on youtube, so I decided to post this link.

    Drums.

I was obsessed with them all throughout my childhood, but my mother could not afford to buy a set.

Then when I turned 33, freshly divorced and living in a rented house with hardly any neighbors, I went out and got a set.

So I have been playing now for 12 years. I am not all that good - never took lessons or was never in a band - but I love to play.

It also got my two older sons interested in music. Now they are 21 (plays bass and drums) and 19 (plays guitar and drums), and are both in bands. This past Christmas we brought our instruments to my brothers house and we jammed. We have a blast. Wish I had a video but no one took any!

My sons hair is longer than my wife's LOL! His band is thrash metal. Plays the entire show with his head going around in circles, hair flying everywhere. Makes me dizzy just watching ...

    Hi,

In my time (25 years) I have learned to play:

    The Recorder
    The Violin
    The Double Bass
    The Guitar (regular and bass)
    Saxophone
    The Piano
    and
    Spoons (?!?! - not really)

I feel I must point out that the only instrument I reached and level of proficiency at is the piano.

    I love a challenge. .
