Rich video codec 1.6 is it's name.
I found a fix on Google, I hope, but
F8 to get safe mode doesn"t work, nor
does F12.

How can I get to safe mode ?
What can I do to get rid of this witch?

Picked the wrong weekend to quit drinkin'

Thanks in advance,

Chuck

Are you trying to initiate safe mode right when you start up the computer?

Boot your computer from a disk. This virus disables safe mode and most key functions. A current virus cleaner will clear it out.

      Sal, Yes I am.

Paul, Thanks, can't find boot disk.
My CA anti virus (from road runner) didn"t
      catch it.

I just looked it up and MYOB is right - it will block you from safe mode.
Obviously you can use your computer - install avast and run it instead of messing with your registry. Its safer and easier. And don't install any anti-anything without checking it out first. Many freeware items are actually virus and trojan despensors. If you have any major problems with anything - you can trust the software listed on MajorGeeks.com

          Chuck,

I learned this lesson the hard way a few years ago myself. Always make backups of your computer system software and data. I do this weekly - new stuff can do this automatically.

You may have to reinstall your system software, but try to find a boot disk perhaps by contacting your computer vendor, or go to

and download to another computer. Burn it to a CD, then insert into your disabled computer in safe mode.

            Thanks Sal & Paul.

I'll get it fixed. Lesson learned as well.

i had a virus a short while ago, and although there was a fix available, still ended up having to wipe anbd start again, just for peace of mind as it was a trojan dropper.

Why did you revive a thread thats over two years old? You added nothing of value to it.

You are lucky, my viruses never have been fixed, every time I got a virus I have to begin from scratch.
