Keith and John may not be there but you've got to see Pete play.

Ever since "nipplegate", the Superbowl halftime show seems to be reserved for old foggies. Times have sure changed when bands like The Who and The Stones are "safe" choices.

The who and the stones were never really R rated attractions. They are a little too classy for that in my humble opinion.

You go to concerts today and they groups have inflatable penises on the stage, strippers and are doing all manner of raunchy antics that probably belong in a porno instead of a concert venue.

Bands like the stones and the who may have gotten rowdy, or a little louder than most but they just aren't the kind of groups that has to get people to come to their concerts with promises of hookers in g-strings gyrating on the stage during the concert.

Really? I can remember the Ed Sullivan show when Keith Moon blew himself up, causing Bette Davis to faint. My comment wasn't about the bands, but how society views the bands.

Elvis may be a better example, when Sullivan would only show him from the waste up. Yes, times have changed, which was my point.

ahh ok. Yeah, definately have changed from a time when you couldnt see elvis from the waist down because it was considered lewd, but now you can go out on youtube and pull up a Rammstein video that will have a leather clad lead singer simulating sex (and ejaculation) on stage with a band member (both are male)

It should be interesting to see how well they still perform.

Kurt - you should start us off w/ a favorite half time performance thread.

Definitely won't be the same Who.

But I'm betting Pete and Roger can still muster up enough to be worth seeing.

When I heard they thinking about touring again I thought, "They need a bass player and drummer. Hmmmm....Mcartney and Starr???

That would be me during Superbowl XII...I made two double decker sandwiches, cooked a frozen pizza and chugged a couple of beers, all during half time. A hall of fame performance if I say so myself.

Thanks for the link. American football is so extraordinarily boring because of the seemingly endless breaks in play that I did not tune in until after half time. And then only glanced at the screen now and then.

The Who are one of my favorite groups but they, like most people of their age, are past their best. Still, it was great to see them.

Will we see some ancient rockers in wheelchairs at an upcoming Superbowl?

I have a buddy that i hit the concerts with around here. We're about the same age and we like going to the '80's hair band concerts, because thats what we listened to. He observed one time that you can tell the crowds at the concerts are getting older because now instead of smelling marijuana in the crowd, you smell ben gay.

                "They" is Pete.

I don't think he gets near the credit he deserves.

Not only all but a handful of album cuts, but Quadrophenia and Tommy as well.

                On a side note:

It wasn't uncommon for Pete and Roger to get into fist-fights backstage.
I think Roger had a problem with Pete's drug problem.

                So the story goes.

Also, here in New Orleans Mardi Gras came early

Now I have a question. WHO DAT??????

I'm not a big Who fan, but I thought they sounded great. They just need to change their name for today to The Who Dat.

    I saw them in '75.

They've lost some of the vocals but, Pete can still play and Roger was fantastic on the harp.

I though the drummer was nearly as good as Keith.

It was great just to see Pete and Roger.
    But...

When I saw them Pete was in his traditional white jumpsuit and combat boots.
And Roger was wearing a long fringed leather vest.

I couldn't help but think. Kiss was wearing all this make-up and there's Pete in a white jumpsuit and combat boots and one windmill brought down the house!

Notice how Keith holds his drumsticks.

And, in these vids Pete is playing a Les Paul.
Tonight he was playing a Strat.

    Pete wrote the songs...

    John did the arrangements.
And, played one hell of a bass.

So you all know WHO you're talking about!

I thought the vocals were a bit off but they still have it.

I've seen them in concert 4 times and still loved every minute of the SB show.

    Have a Great Day!

Never been a big fan. The worst part of the halftime show was the music, the best part the lasers. We turned it down and just watched the nice laser show.

I guess this is all a matter of opinion, but honestly, Roger doesn't have the
voice he did in 1972...and he shouldn't. The guy is old enough to apply for
      social security.

Having said that, they weren't bad. It was certainly nice to see Roger and
      Pete together.

Well, they've got a few years Bruce.
Pete is damn-near deaf, and like I said, Keith and John weren't there.

And, if we're going to compare, my personal opinion, they were better than the Stones.
But, then again, they always were.
