I Am So Fed Up With The Incompetence In This World

My daughter ordered books for her last semester of college.

Today...a manila envelop came...that's it...just the envelop.

Nothing inside.

The person packing it either doesn't know how to ship items or my post
office (who have screwed up more things of mine already than I can count
including lost checks) beat this thing to hell.

Either way, I am fed up with the incompetence of this world.

Can anybody do anything right?

    I know what you mean.

You and I share the same first name, spelt exactly the same way.

Whenever I have to give out my name, I specify "Steven, with a v".

Doesn't matter, they still spell it StePHen, or worse, StePHVen.

    Shhesh.

Methinks you have to consider the source.

Competent people don't work in the shipping department. Or at the fast food drive thru. Or the Walmart check out.

They are much more likely to be posting in the Warrior Forum.

GEE, whateverpedia, MY name is spelled the OTHER way. I once got turned down for $500 credit at a DEPARTMENT store. I was LIVID! My credit was GREAT, I had plenty of money, $500 was NOTHING, it was the SMALLEST card I had, and was because THEY asked me, and promised me a discount. So WHY did I get turned down?

    1. THEY WERE IDIOTS and USING MY NAME to identify me!
    2. They spelled my name ESTEPHEN! I mean WHO spells it that way!?!?!? The CLOSEST spelling I know of is SPANISH which is ESTEBAN!

And JPMORGAN ran my credit TWICE, for my mortgage! They claimed that was because some jerk entered the wrong SSN. I DON'T understand! If the SSN got the report, WHY did they run it again? If the SSN did NOT get the report, how come I have the inquiry? They can't answer that.

And I ordered test strips for a device purchased from the SAME company! I told them I just wanted them to send out another order. They decide to do EVERYTHING manually and, of course, mess up! If they do it again, I might mention, to the FTC and FDA, the propinquity of various efforts on their part that violate several FDA and FTC rules, out of spite! I ALREADY got them in trouble with the FDA once!

Anyway, they OBVIOUSLY tried to make testing supplies SCARCE so they could sell a new machine that used more expensive supplies. I was one that didn't fall for the garbage, but they succumbed to the confusion they created by doing it.

Have to disagree with you on that GT.

I threw 3 bullets into a fire when I was 5 years old and they didn't kill anyone.

Although I did walk around with raised letters saying "22 cal long" printed
on my knee cap for a couple of years after the event.

Hey I was 5 years old so 10 minutes seemed like a long time then and I
had to see why they didn't go off??? Got my answer when I looked into the fire.

Parents didn't know. I thought I was shot and didn't tell them about it for
nearly 20 yrs...lol Kids will be Kids!

You were lucky. Fortunately, we are more safety conscious these days.

When I was a kid, another kid (probably about 5 yrs old) in a neighboring apartment found a bunch of loose bullets in a kitchen drawer, so he took them outside with a hammer. He almost lost a limb as a result, but the docs were able to save it.

    Steven:

LOL - I hear what you are saying. I think I get the subtle, self-deprecating humour intended in your statements. To paraphrase:

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

We may get frustrated with the incompetence that surrounds us, but we would do well to maintain our own humility because there's SURE to be people who think that about US! lol

If you put all the competent people together, they would just argue about who was "most competent and least competent".

I'm so used to waiting in line, getting the wrong things, etc that I try to keep a sense of humor about it.

In early January I went to the local tax office to get my new auto license sticky thingies. I took a book because every time I've been there it was was a 15-20 minute wait.

I walked in and was the only one there! I walked up to the clerk and stupidly said "Wow, there's no line" - and she said "would you feel better if I just ignored you for a while". What a great comeback!

        Sure, stuff happens to people.

But I wonder or think if thats a Joy-zee , New York, or Bah-stin thing , ya know, almost every conversation is either yelling, tryin to talk louder than the other guy, piss match, gripes, condescension about most subjects and people , arguing , you know, normal east coast city life.

They always seemed "jacked" or "wired" like they just drank 15 gallons of Turkish Expresso or something.

Most times I see a east coaster, they seem like Race Track people..., extremely pessimistic and LOUD.

But when I hint or ask them about their opinions or attitudes, they like, "what, we just talkin here, wha'da ya mean?"

        Just normal for those guys.

Guess if I lived where 20 million people are crammed for resources in 1 mile square city with having to dig out from under 50 feet of snow and ice every time I open my front door while sitting in traffic for 4 hours on the expressway not moving, while trying not to get pickpocketed and mugged, then smelling urine for fresh air everyday, maybe I'll get an edge too.

The problem is the same reason the economy, (and the country), is in the dumper.
The people making the decisions, (i.e. management) don't have, and don't want a clue.

Someone once said; "Democracy will never work because people are incapable of governing themselves".

Someone else once said; "I see stupid stupid people. They're everywhere. They don't even know they're stupid".

      The bottom line is...

      You're right Steven.
There is no excuse for incompetence.
All it takes is the least amount of giving a sh*t.
And most people have been beatin' down to the point where they don't.

That's because, in Ohio, we round up all the incompetent people and elect them to public office.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, legislate.

Aren't some parts of Ohio hit pretty hard by the economy?

Thats what surprised about the "small town" nice-ee nice attitude, or maybe those small towns are upper middle-class retirees with pensions or something.

          Dan -

Where in Ohio? I'm from Oxford.

          Steve-

Problem is we keep adding to "stuff" and doing more "things" and being provided with further "services" - and every layer we add provides thousands of new opportunities for incompetence.

Dan, what makes you think Ohio has a stranglehold on that strategy?

It's practically becoming an American tradition.

We must have learned it from the Brits.

They are incompetant. Most of the world seems that way.

It's just like when you apply to a job and don't get hired because you are OVER qualified. Now personally, I would rather hire someone who knew more beyond their job, then someone who didn't know how to do their job at all. But no, they would rather have someone with NO qualifications working for them, then someone who may one day go after the managers job LOL.

And don't even get me started with mispellings. I very rarely get my name (first or last) spelt right. It's even worse with my married name, would not believe how many times I have been called Mrs. Mirror (it's Meier, they can all pronounce it just fine if it's a y, but that i is just too hard). And even my oldest daughter gets her name mispelt all the time, cause I mean every second child's name is Angle, right? LOL
