Default Are you faster than your computer sometimes?

Have you ever felt that your actions are faster than your computer can follow up with?

I just came across one such instance, I copied some text from a web page pressed CtrlC, Alt-tabbed to my MS Word and pressed CtrlV, all these actions were completed quickly, but the computer was following me all the time with a pause and a noticeable delay!

What other 'quick action sets' may cause you feeling like your computer is trying to catch up with your commands?

Aren't you forgetting the transmission time from wherever in the world the web page is to your computer?

My computer is running with an Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.0 GHz processor and 2 Gig RAM. Since I do just about everything faster, including typing, than this computer...does that mean my brain is faster than 2.0 GHz? And has a temporary storage capacity of more than 2 GB? What is the processing rate and storage capacity of the human brain? I wonder...

You are right, but what I pasted was only formatted text (no graphics or such) and I was Alt-tabbling back to the browser immediately after pasting in Word, and the computer was like, going hiccups as it tried to paste in Word and return to browser.

I know of this: The human brain has been estimated to contain 50–100 billion (1011) neurons as per Wikipedia Human brain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. So there they operate both as storage mechanism as well as processors by firing neural impulses among themselves via the synapses, axons, dendrites, etc. (all stuff from neurology).

All this needs power, and our body operates from biological power intake in the form of carboyhydrates and proteins, but we could possibly simulate an artificial brain with transistors for synapses see physicworld article - Organic transistor mimics brain synapse - physicsworld.com and we could supply power artificially to an "artificial brain" and maintain it as a backup for our lives and one day when we are dead we can take that artificial brain and put it into ourselves and live forever !

See this for 'How much power does the human brain require to operate?' How Much Power Does The Human Brain Require To Operate? | Popular Science

As I always say at work, I'm only limited by the speed of the system.

Wow! Thank you for that awesome insight. Could you imagine being able to back-up our brains? If only we had the technology back in the days of Einstein and Edison and other such "brainiacs". Imagine the possibilities. I've always wished for the ability to record my dreams on an external device for later playback. Maybe one day... Speaking of dreams, I suppose it's time for bed. My memory foam pad and air mattress are calling my name. Time for a system reboot

LightningZsolt, writers have already started drawing parallels between the brain and electronic memory/storage circuits. Just the other day I came across a lifehacker article that linked to an article about how to 'defrag' your brains. So there, we are going to treat our brains more like hard disks with infinite storage capacity the only differnnce is that our brain cells operate with dual functionality - both storage as well as processing. (OR easily Brain cell Neuron = CPU + Hard disk). The time may come when we are able to purchase additional bio-storage devices that somehow compliment our brain's rememberance and recall functions - think of it, we dont need to remember anything, heck we only need to know some keywords to search for and the machine will give us the result by searching (an 'electronic drudgework slave'). Makes me recall someone once said, 'it doesnt matter whether you know, it matters if you know how to find it when and if it becomes necessary'). The lifehacker article is here
Defrag Your Mind in Five Steps - Defragment - Lifehacker

Also read this - http://holykaw.alltop.com/how-nanote...rs-a-human-li? - researchers have already read transistors that can mimic the functions of brain cells or synapses. So eventually the day may come when we are able to make artificial brains. When we die, we will simply insert the artificial brain replacing the physical brain and possibly continue to live forever as the brain regulates all the physiological and neurological processes in the body. We will simply upgrade our "Brain OS" that controls bodily functions to new versions as and when new fields of knowledge are discovered. So we never will need to learn or memorize anything. Anything knowledge-based will be available just by searching, and eventually we should be able to think and search, rather than using our hands to operate keyboards and mouses. We should be able to get search results of knowledge documents directly transferred into our brain or through a bionic eye system that whose inside viewing screen lies just to the front of our natural eyes.

FifthDimension, thanks for that informative reply. It's amazing how one can learn so much more than just business-related things from this forum. I loved that article on defragmenting your brain. Trying to use some of those tips on myself now. It completely makes sense! No wonder I feel so drained and run down all the time. All the "unnecessary" information is in chunks in the most accessed parts of my brain and the important data is buried deep in my mental file system. Wish I could upgrade to Brain OS 2.0 right now :-)

Well everybody knows the human brain is like a thousand times faster than any computer we can currently build on this planet, plus we can multitask too. Right now I'm eating a sandwich, watching t.v., and making money online, all while typing with one finger. When a computer can do that, then I'll be impressed...and scared! :-O

Yeah, dubhdara, I can't type with one finger either. So you're not alone there.

This is a good question, especially, when a person uses a basic computer with very few features and when the computer has too many programs running. Sometimes, I feel, I am slower in doing work with the computer . If the computer also is slow, then the whole agenda does not happen in time. I try to work within my limits like my computer and strive to achieve.

There are 2 things actually...
1. You BRAIN is faster than any computer on earth presently.
2. It is the BRAIN that creates, not the machines.
