I think we are all aware of the fiasco that is going on between these guys and according to several sources, everyone is on Conans side. What do you guys all think? Despite watching the Oprah interview with Jay, I still think he's a douche and hope his show fails.

Jay Leno doesn't exactly OWN the network...

Decisions are made by the executives HE has to answer to.

Yehh I know it wasn't entirely his decision, but hey he accepted the proposal and all hell broke loose. He assumed conan would be fine with it without consulting him... so I dunno, still a douche to me

When Jay Leno's bosses told him his new show was being canceled and they wanted him back at 11:30 he, being under contract, agreed. he wasn't given back the Tonight Show until Conan said he would no longer do it. It was Conan who decided he wouldn't do the Tonight Show anymore. He disagreed with NBC and so negotiatedleaving his gig. How any of this falls on Jay, I don't know. After all Conan is the one who took the Tonght Show from Jay when Jay was winning in the ratings. I enjoy watching both but Conan seems to have been the Diva here, first wanting to take the Tonight Show from Jay then quitting the Tonight Show when NBC (the idiots in charge) decided to move it. That's my take. I see NBC as the bad guy, Jay as the willing employee and Conan as the unwilling employee.

Conan all the way! And Conan never took the show away from Jay, NBC moved them around. I don't think any of the blame is really on Conan or Jay, I just think NBC kept jerkin em around.

And he got something like 30 million to leave the show and 12 million for all of his staff. Get 'em Conan

Late night is crazy, it all seem to benefit David Letterman though. But if Conan couldn't get the ratings then they had to go back to what works.

Oh yeah....Letterman has been all over this one!

For the last week or so he been, in his "subtle" little way, has been tearing the NBC exec's a new one almost constantly.

I have to say, I have always preferred Letterman over either of them, Conan or Leno.

Rumours have gone around for years about how Letterman was suppose to get the tonight show after Carson but somehow Leno's manager snuck in and worked some deal.

5 years ago...Jay Leno stated to everyone that he was retiring & that Conan was taking over the tonight show....
That 5 years came along....Jay did as he stated & Conan took over the tonight show...
NBC was affraid to lose Jay to another network...so, NBC schemed the "prime time" 10:00pm slot.....
In NBC's own words...they knew Jay would get killed in the rating but thought they would rise through the spring re-run season & gain an audience....
Well....NBC, under pressure from local affiliates who were losing buko advertising bucks for the 10:00 slot that leads into their local news....demanded that Leno be taken off the air...

NBC canceled the Jay Leno Prime Time "experiment"...never giving it a chance. Again...they were affraid to lose Jay to another network & Leno was still under contract....so...they offered him a 1/2 hr show right after the local news.
This has been traditionally the tonights show time slot...has been for more than 1/2 a centry...it's an broadcasting institution...you just don't mess with that!!

SO.....in order to accomodate Jay....they needed to move the tonight show from its perch at 11:30pm...back to 12:05pm....which in all theory would not make it the "tonight show" anymore....since it's on after 12:00am...making it "tomorrow"!!
Conan would not break the long standing tradition of the tonight show & refused the new time slot...
Jay did not care about the tradition of the tonigt show....he cared about covering his own ass, so he eagerly bent over for NBC....

Jay Leno officially retired for crying out loud...he should have bowed out gracefully & let Conan continue, as he had stated....as the host of the tonight show....but being the major kiss-ass he is, he whimped out & personally let Conan get screwed....he showed his true colors during all this & personally hope his show fails...

And through all this...I never was a huge Conan fan....he was funny but I personally could take him or leave him......BUT...he never should have received the screwing over he got from NBC & especially Jay Leno.....

    JMO...

I think Jay is funnier, but I think he may be a prick in real life.

I have a sweet spot for Conan, I hope his ratings come up and he gets a good spot. I think Conan is pretty funny.

Conan seem like one of those pals that stops by on Sunday afternoon for a "visit" and by Tuesday you have to get downright nasty before he realizes you want him to go home...

The strangest thing was the Superbowl commercial with Dave, Oprah AND Jay promoting Late Night...Jay promoting Dave? Isn't that like Ronald McDonald doing a Burger King commercial?

Carson was the best by far. He could play the straight man or the funny man equally well.

I heard Victoria Jackson in an interview say the difference between Letterman and Carson was that Dave would always try to be funny, where Carson knew how to set guests up so they could be funny.

I've posted this clip before, but I think it's a perfect example of how Carson could milk every last laugh out of a situation...He gets 30 seconds more laughs than anyone else would have...
