Teachers having sex with kids

I see a lot of stories of teachers having sex with children. Around here, I see way more female teachers having sex with the boys than the males having sex with the females.

When these trysts come to light, parents always are tearfully saying how their child is messed up for life.

Now maybe i'm just thinking of this as an older male, but i find it very hard to believe that a teenaged male is going to be 'damaged' by having sex with his teacher.

For instance..this is one of the teachers that had sex with a student here in tampa

Debra lafave. This kids parents were all over tv about how their child is mentally damaged..yadda..yadda..yadda.

I dont know what highschool is like today, but in my day you would be a fricken SUPERSTAR if you were caught having sex with that teacher

Young females..maybe they are 'damaged'..but I kind of doubt that too, but i just dont see a young guy being anything but a hero to his classmates

Age of majority should be lowered to 14. For all purposes - contracts, voting, driving, drinking, smoking, prison sentences, execution, etc.

One full generation after that, we'll have teenagers and young adults who actually know how to behave themselves.

Yeah, but you're looking at it from the point of view of a female. Teen males are a hormone fueled penis with legs. You can't 'rape' the willing.

His cousin (who was the only one that knew about it) told on him.

I would have been kicking my cousin's butt if he knocked me out of that.

I'm Jewish. We hold our children accountable as adults from the age of 13. We've done this for six thousand years. It actually seems to work rather well.

From a more modern standpoint, the brain undergoes a massive growth of grey and white matter every 12-14 years. Studies show no appreciable difference in maturity between those growth cycles. A person who has been through one such cycle is just about as mature the day afterward as he is the day before the next cycle. Changes in maturity happen at those cycles.

The car insurance companies have known this for almost a century. Rates go down when you turn 26 - and the average person has just been through the second cycle.

Indeed, the Founding Fathers seem to have known it: the President must be at least 35, the multiple of 5 closest to the third cycle. An awful lot of empirical judgments over the ages seem to bear out what science is now discovering just in the past couple years.

Interesting. I still would not want a 14 year old kid VOTING - hell I hate it that half the adults are allowed to vote. Voting isn't just a matter of maturity, it's a matter of EDUCATION. At 14 the average kid (and even some exceptional ones) do not have the accumulated education about government or many of the issues needed to cast an informed vote. Voting privilege, I've always felt, should be held for only those who can pass certain tests of knowledge to acquire the right. If that 14 yr old can pass that test, give him a vote card - if a 50 year old can't, they don't have a say since they had plenty of time to learn and didn't do so.

SAME HERE! And there is a rumor going around that they want to start teaching US history from 1877! Given the way many think, etc.... I think the parts about how the country was created, and the major wars that unified the country should be covered. And this is AMAZING, considering that I HATED history. I don't think EXACT dates or names should necessarily be required, but at least the IDEAS, what happened, why, and ABOUT when certainly should be.

The problem with this is who writes the test? We had that for decades in this country as a way to discriminate against blacks and other non whites. We don't need to go backwards.

Sure Dave. Here's a timeline of voting rights/discrimination:

Well, it all started in 1790 when only male white adult property owners were allowed to vote.

Then in 1850 Property ownership and tax requirements were eliminated. Almost all adult white males could vote.

1855 Connecticut adopts the nation's first literacy test for voting. Massachusetts follows suit in 1857. The tests were implemented to discriminate against Irish-Catholic immigrants.

1870 The 15th Amendment is passed. It gives former slaves the right to vote and protects the voting rights of adult male citizens of any race.

1890 Mississippi adopts a literacy test to keep African Americans from voting. Numerous other states--not just in the south--also establish literacy tests. However, the tests also exclude many whites from voting. To get around this, states add grandfather clauses that allow those who could vote before 1870, or their descendants, to vote regardless of literacy or tax qualifications.

1920 women are allowed to vote

1964 The 24th Amendment bans the poll tax as a requirement for voting in federal elections.

1965 The Voting Rights Act protects the rights of minority voters and eliminates voting barriers such as the literacy test.

So for over a century actually literacy tests were used to discriminate against non whites or Irish Catholics. Non whites were granted the right to vote by the 15th Amendment but the states found a way around this with the literacy tests, which whites didn't have to take. Pretty disgusting isn't it?

Gee, what illegitimate question could they ask? Are you black? OK, answered yes, can't vote. I mean I heard of poll taxes, maybe they should bring them back, and literacy tests, which they SHOULD bring back. BTW whites should have to pay the tax, and take the tests also. But NOT asking for literacy is TOO MUCH to ask! THAT is part of the problem.

I'm sure I could write a test that you would fail Steve. Easily. If you can't see the problem with literacy tests or poll taxes, especially with the history of how they have been used to discriminate, frankly I don't think you SHOULD be voting!

So you are saying BLACKS are all illiterate? WARNING! THAT may be considered RACIST! And some people vote all over, etc... Maybe a poll tax would help to limit that.

THAT was the point of my question in the first place...

I was wondering if he thought the same reasoning they used 100 years ago would still work because he believed there was still a majority of blacks/non-whites that couldn't pass a literacy test...

It wasn't only 100 years ago. If it wasn't for the voting rights bill in 1966 these phony racist "literacy" tests would still be given.

My point is simple: there shouldn't be any restrictions like tests or taxes to vote. We've had those before and they were used for the sole purpose to take away people's rights. I'm for protecting our rights, not taking them away. Are you?

Frankly, if anyone tried to make it racist, I doubt it would go far.

WOW, one happens before 2, and one happens before about 8, and one before about 13, and they say things kind of stop around 35, though they earlier said they stop earlier. In fact, the earlier ones grow to a larger degree faster.

Well, the case where they said it stops at 35, they DID say that was why you had to be that old to be president, but the 12-14 year span just doesn't make sense, considering the pruning around 2(If it goes crazy, you have CDD),8(Some claim if it goes crazy, you will get autism, but problems DO start earlier.), and 13.

Basic knowledge? Of what? Math? French? Art history? Politics?

It's the same thing Dave. Any test would be a step backward and a way to take rights away from people. I'm surprised Sal, who is always talking about having our rights taken away, would support such a backwards idea that does exactly that.

How about just what the issues are that are being discussed. With math, you would think the basics would be fine, but even a lot of politicians seem to get THAT wrong. That's part of the reason why we are in this mess. Politics(like what parties are supposed to be, names of parties, their positions, etc... shouldn't even enter into it.) And FRENCH!?!? Why stop there? Why didn't you mention Zulu, Greek, Chinese, Hindi? NOPE, I think we can do without that. English would be fine. I mean if people don't have a common language of discussion, how can they know all the news, and people's positions?

Actually Kids have even more Knowledge than we did at 14 with all the ways to tap into media from the internet to their cellphone. They have more of a vast knowledge of the world than we could hope to of had back than.

Everything we knew was in the history books. Now its played out right in front of people

Well, I will agree that PEOPLE(not only kids, but PEOPLE) have a LOT more knowledge available to them now. And yeah, history is repeating itself all over. I could say more but.....

Maybe the test should be on how well people know themselves and not how well they know the issues?

And don't buy any of that statement.

They know more trivia, but trivia is not knowledge.

In fact, they are probably headed to be the least enlightened generation in quite a while. Not only are they being stripped of their communication skills, their ability to distinguish reality from fantasy is being eroded at a far faster pace than previous generations.

Let's say a WWII vet was in the hospital for a long period of time and was unaware of the specific issues but wanted to vote based on traditional party lines.

Who here is willing to take away his vote based on him not knowing the issues of the day?

Seriously, I think it's dangerous to give the right to vote based on what one knows, especially without considering what one DID.

How do we take away any the vote of anyone that served in the military, even if they can't pass a test?

I never served, but still believe that those that did have earned their right to vote, irregardless of what they score on some test. And I believe they served to protect my right to vote.

In this example, I find it very egotistical to say one has a right to vote because they know something, but never put their life on the line, over someone that did serve and may not pass a test simply because he/she wasn't in the country because they were pulling duty in Iraq.

    What the HELL?

I think this guy wakes up in the morning thinking, "gee, what can I topic can I think of to post to get people fighting and arguing and how can I create the most drama?"

Must be a slow day cause this was in the headlines years ago.

And how did it go from promoting teacher/student sex which is wrong legally and to anyone with morals to arguing about voting?

Psshh Sal, kids couldn't do a worse job voting than any adult. Only 2 men to choose from, a 50/50 chance of whoever the "good" guy is. Oh wait, there isn't one. Reduce age to 4, they can't do any worse than any 40 year old.

Ok now I'll help this wacky dude with future topics so he'll have less thinking to do in the morning on how to stir up drama, then get out the thread and watch everyone go at it while he plants his virtual corn and milks his virtual cows.

    Tue- Abortion

These are off topic discussions..i like hearing people's replies. Nobody is making you read OR reply to any of my posts. I believe there is also an ignore button if they bother you that much.
