Brainstorming on Marketing

Hi Warrior,

I'm looking for some brainstorming on how to market my services. And it occurred to me that if I asked the question at the Warrior Forum, it could be useful for other people as well.

I do professional, high-level "content" editing of books and magazines. I've done this for a publishing company, now I want to freelance online.

I've posted a paid ad on the Warrior Forum some time ago, but it got very little response.

How else could I best market my services to get work over the internet?

      Hi Kevin,

      Good point - thank you!

As a content editor, I do the normal checking of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and readability that a copy editor would do.

But beyond that, I analyze documents for logic, the overall flow of ideas, and presentation style. Does it need to be longer to do justice to the topic? Is it far too wordy and in need of drastic pruning?

I also keep my eyes open for what might be missing from the discussion the author is trying to have with the reader.

Then, depending on the wishes of the author, I will either make suggestions for corrections, or do whatever correcting and rewriting is necessary. Sometimes that involves partnering closely with the author. Sometimes it means I just do everything that's needed and submit the document for final approval.

In the past, I've done this with non-fiction books, magazine articles, catalogs, direct mail letters, website content, and scholarly textbooks.

      Thanks.

Maybe start by creating a small website to brand yoruself and make you seem like a professional. Marketing is all about perception. Then you can market just like you would a regular web site, classifieds, seo, articles, video, ppc, whatever.

    Best of luck David
