Who are you?

We all fill out many, many "profiles" online, but who are we really? If you are like me, that profile page just causes severe writer's block. I am NOT the person on my profile page.... well, I am, but I am more than that.

I challenge you all to tell .. JUST... A .. BIT... MORE...

I will start it.

From my profile you know that I am:

southern
40-something
low-tech
unemployed

If you have communicated with me you may have figured out that I am:

nice
ethical
forgiving

What you may not know:

I am very competitive... I actually started combat kickboxing at the age of 40 and achieved a black belt in 3 years.

I have had jobs in so many fields I lose track. I have been: Optometric Assistant, USAF Medical Admin, Degree Requirements Clerk, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Budget Analyst, Manpower Analyst, Bookkeeper, Assistant Manager of a Fitness Center, District Manager of a Mental Health Clinic.

You may think that I am nice, and sweet, and don't want to hurt people's feelings or rock the boat. That is all true.

I am also competitive, easily annoyed, bossy, impatient, and very, very exacting; both on myself and others.

My picture shows you an image that is not exactly accurate either. It is several years old, and was taken at the height of my kickboxing experience. I was in the best shape of my life.

Now I am nearing 50, (I'm 48) and I have more a computer body than a kickboxing one.

Unfortunately, in my family, I am one of the photographers. (My son calls my sister and me the paparazzi twins.) So I don't have many pictures of me, and the ones I do have, I don't like. So I use an old picture.

Do I feel deceptive? Of course, but what the hell: that person is still inside of me, even if I don't look like that any more!

Ok, now I have reached ramble mode.. I only start threads like this after I have had a couple of glasses of wine, or a coupe of scotches. (My two drinks of choice, by the way.)

Tell me about you!

Teresa

I don't have any sisters and have always wanted a sister my whole life They are like life long stuck together forever relative friends

I have a kind of weird family so I never had a chance to begin with :p

I used to be addicted to soda but now I drink cold green tea with peach and mango all day.

I'm starting Zumba and its the big thing I'm looking forward to every Thurs. nite. And sign language class on Tues. nite.

My lifelong dream is to live in a tropical climate but that probably won't happen.

I hate stupid, annoying, egotistical idiots.

I like Indian food, Mexican, and veggie thin crust pizza.

I've always had a problem with patience and impulse control but have gotten much better.

For ppl who are my friends I'm a very good, loyal friend

I have a terrifying phobia of getting old

    There, a few tidbits

You should travel to the Seychelles islands off east Africa, beautiful place. And they have these lobsters that are half blue and half zebra striped And these trees that grow the most beautiful star fruit. I'd looooove to go on vacation there every year

Hey Kevin Zumba is a latin dance workout.

And yeah it would seem all English speaking countries would have the same sign language!

Probably the most shocking thing about me is...

I was one of the early hip-hop culture adherents. Graffiti artist, break dancer, rapper, beat boxer, scratch DJ. Granted, the last break dancing competition I entered was in 2004, but come on - how many other guys in their thirties would dare?

I still stay "in practice" on all this stuff, but I don't really do it much in public anymore. During the late 80s and early 90s, however, I was a weekly fixture on the corner of 3rd and G streets outside of Garfield Park in Washington D.C. - where the local rappers would gather on Friday and Saturday nights to have free-for-all rap battles.

One week, a young girl showed up and just handed me my arse in a battle. She went on to become "Da Brat." I have never been prouder.

Went to London last month and everywhere there were ads for Zumba. Came back home to Oz and found a friend of mine is attending Zumba classes - very energetic.

Valerie, I am sorry you never had sisters. You are so right about having life-long friends. I have 2 sisters, and also my mother was very young when I was born so she is like another sister to me. And I have a niece in her 20's. When we all get together it is a blast. My family is one of my greatest gifts in life. And don't give up on the tropical climate, you just never know.

Laura, you sound so adventurous! I would love to go to all of those places you mentioned also. We lived in Germany and then England for awhile in the early 90's, and did some day trips to places like Switzerland, Paris, Austria, Prague. Traveling is great fun, and I would love to do more of it.

Caliban, you never cease to surprise me. I would never have pegged you for a rapper/break dancer, etc. Very, very interesting. It's great that you still keep in practice with it. Wish I could say that about my kickboxing.

At the end of my kickboxing training, before my trainer quit doing classes, we were starting to learn the grappling side also; I was on my way to becoming a mixed martial artist! I miss all of that more than I can say. I have never done any kind of workout, before or since, that I enjoyed so much.
