Why Did Jill Just Spend 1.50 on the Ugliest Clock in the World?

I just went to the dollar store, and I was on a very specific mission.

I have found that I am wasting a LOT of time.

I go through phases where I get lots of work done, and then I find myself getting distracted looking at some things and next thing you know 4,5,6 hours have passed and my day is shot.

I decided I really need to hunker down because I am flushing away a lot of time daily that could be used more effectively.

For some reason, I don't like using the timer on my computer - so I decided I was going to get an external timer for the purpose of setting the alarm every hour.

I have a few plans I'm sitting on right now that all say "Make money following this plan with just an hour a day!"

Well, they are going to be put to the test.

I was not intentionally looking for an "ugly" clock when I went out, but now I am quite fond of it being somewhat repulsive.

Here is a picture:

Some of you may be thinking it's not so ugly.

I can assure you, it is pure plastic, and the seconds are clearly heard as it goes round.

Not only is my new clock ugly, but it is slow on the upswing, so an hour really gives me longer than an hour to complete.

So, I am off now to commit to my ugly clock and put some of the one hour wonder plans to the test on a daily basis.

I will let you all know in a month or so how this new "Ugly Clock Marketing" works.

If I make bank, I'll grab a bunch more from the dollar store for the rest of you.

Point is I guess, if you find you are flushing time down the toilet daily, find something to time yourself and commit to getting something done.

"Ugly Clock Marketing" -- what a hoot! I love it. Sometimes all it takes is a daily in-your-face reminder, until it becomes habit.

No, you're right...that's an ugly clock. lol

Good for you buckling down. You have to remind yourself to work harder sometimes. I'm sure your next couple weeks will be productive for you.

Last night I decided I would buy a stopwatch. I too have been wasting too much time. So I decided to be productive, I would make lists, estimate how much time I needed and set a stopwatch to that time. Then when the stopwatch went off, off to the next task, unless I finished early. Then not so much time at places like to waste Will only do time wasting stuff after I've finished my list.

Good luck, looks like we're in the same boat.

Willie Crawford does the same thing. He times each of his activities and
then when the timer goes off, he moves on to the next one.

I have no need for this device because I'm OCD and just have to get things
done or I end up taking my oozy to the post office.

Does that clock even have the option to set an alarm every hour is it one of those ones that 'dings' on the hour?

Ugly ass clock for sure and i bet the ticking is going to drive you nuts.

Actually it's a good investment Jill.

If it doesn't help then you're out $1.50.

If it does work you can package it as a Time Management Assistant and sell it for $39.95.

    Hope it works for you!

They have more Val. You need me to mail you one?

I appreciate your confession. And I'm confident we are not the only 2.

It runs on a double A battery, and just does the beeping thing when it hits the alarm set.

I have about 10 minutes to spare now while eating my lunch to goof off - then I will be on the ugly clock time for a few hours.

i feel sorry for anybody who is dictated to by time ? i often see things like when you go top we will give you a free gold watch, ?

makes no sense to me if I'm top i do not want to be controlled by time, sitting on the beach or where ever, who cares what the time is so why give me a watch.

there are only two times that are important to me, night time and day time. i look out the window and reset my clock.

for an experiment stand in the city near a bus stop or tram and just watch the sheep roll up, they all stand there looking at the watch tapping feet, all in tune with a little clock that says where they will spend the next part of their life.

    very very sad people.

threw my watch in the bin over 20 years ago, and most times i don't care what day or what season i am in.

yep it is an ugly clock, bin it now before it rules your life.

I don't think Jill meant that the Ugly Gold Clock is going to change or rule her life...I think she was simply making a point - if you find yourself getting off track, find a way to get back on. That's how I took it anyways.

a fun reply to a fun post, i suppose we all have days where we do not do what needs to be done, including myself. the reply was not personal just in general, sorry if it was read that way.

In many ways i find people without watches or clocks work longer, the people with watches seems to be all packed up ready to go on time, every time, you only need watch them as they watch the watch.

LOL I agree with that. I don't wear a watch...mostly I don't really care what time it is. But yeah, I'm in the too-much-time-wasting boat too these days.

    Funny, I actually like the clock..at 1.50 it's a steal.

Here I'm estimating that something like that would cost
    around $5

By the way, I think your problem happens to all of us.

I too get distracted and would realize I've spent several
hours doing something else..but am able to get back to
what I was doing and see it through to the end.

    good luck on the clock

      Jill,

Quickly buy out the dollar store; sell the clocks to Omar for three bucks each.

He can then, in turn, sell them for $5 each.

You both come out smelling like roses.

      Elmer

That's cool Willie Crawford does that, I didn't know that. I just decided to to that last night after being disgusted with myself for not being productive. Already have the list down. I just got back from walmart (ugh on a Saturday) and got a digital kitchen timer thing for only around $3. Now ready to to stop wasting so much time. Even took a pic, but it's not a good one. The thing on my bed ready to be open and used.

Let us know how it works for you Jill.

For me I live a VERY scheduled live because of the kids, but you know what. I haven't had a watch in probably 5 years. I don't care anymore what time it is. I find I work better without the constant remainder of t- what seconds LOL.

It's hard to get business things done when you have kids who are always needing something. You just get started and concentrate-then "MOOOMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYY!!!! He just poured out the whole bottle of milk on the floor" Time to lose concentration, quit what you're doing and go clean up. I think you said you have 2 special needs, I don't know how you do it, I hope you have help with the kids to give you a break. I admire you!!

LOL That about covers it. Thank goodness 4/5 are now in school at least half a day, because Matty is a handful enough. Ever try to type with an overactive 3 year old (or soon to be 3 year old) on your lap wanting to see his picture on the desktop, not whatever you are working on that is overtop the picture LOL. Jill,

That is one u-g-l-y clock, but hey, if it helps, that's awesome. I think it's a great idea.

HOWEVER - the gold here (not on the clock) is that you REALIZED that you were getting distracted and DID something (anything!) about it vs continuing to get off track and spinning your wheels!

The lesson to be learned is to realize the things that *aren't* helping us make money, be happier, etc. and reduce/eliminate them.

On the flip side, if the clock doesn't work out, you could probably ebay it for like $75 as a rare item that you can't find in stores (not that many would carry it).

You could also slap together a WSO on your Never Before Released "Make money following this plan with just an hour a day" method. I would add in some kickers like "How I skyrocketed my income by 12 Trillion dollars yesterday" though..

The clock is awesome and out of it was born a catchy business name to boot. I think the clock could be your midas touch and not bad at a steal for $1.50.

    Loving the name.

PS - I use my cellphone scheduler so that I can monitor how much time I spend on certain tasks, I'm more efficient with it because I swore I once I started working on my computer all the laws of time and relativity went out the window and minutes/hours would ebb away. I never knew where my time was going.

Good for you for monitoring your time, it helps keeps things in perspective, identifies where our time drains are and helps us to be more productive.

In many ways it is the best purchase you have made as this is a great topic.

I was sitting with a couple the other day discussing their new site and the lady spoke up and mentioned she felt bad because she felt she was wasting time and needed to bog down and get more blog posts done so she could start to drive some more traffic and fill everything out on the site.

(She had read one of those post 2 blogs a day, wipe your nose 3 times clockwise then jog for 15 minutes type posts)

So i asked her after she mentioned that, was the blog now ruling her time and in effect controlling what she does or if she felt she was in control of what was done ?

off topic from that is an alternate way to look at things. Often we are so wound up in this find more time to be productive, set my bells and whistle thinking, it is often that people will develop a death spiral where more and more then push harder, more in less time that in the end burn out will happen, there will be a loss of focus and in effect over time you achieve less and or need to spend more time repairing what should have not been done in the first place.

If people took some time each day just to sit and think quietly for about one or two hours a day, they would then Analise work done and also plan work to do, discover new ideas.

this method then will see you relaxed, effective with the time you do spend working and will also allow for a high degree of focus as you move forward.

I did similar method by installing the free TimeLeft clock on my computer (I'm sure you could find it through a search). It has a stop watch feature, and I've been timing how long I spend on various tasks and tracking non-productive tasks, so that I can be more productive.
