Okay, here's the deal.

Everyone knows guys think Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie are sexy.

Everyone knows girls think Brad Pitt and George Clooney are sexy.

So let's get fringe. Name at least one person YOU think is sexy that OTHER people don't, and at least one person you DON'T think is sexy that other people DO.

For my part, I think Clea Duvall is gorgeous, but she's constantly thrust into roles where she plays the "plain" girl - or, worse, the stereotype of a butch lesbian. Nobody ever seems to let her get pretty in a role.

And on the flip side of the coin, I simply don't get why people think Kate Beckinsale is so sexy. I don't see the attraction. She's shaped right, and has all the right pieces and parts and features, but I'm just sort of meh.

    Well, not all guys.
Aniston does absolutely nothing for me, and Jolie might have been at one time, but now she is, as you said, meh.

I'll have to edit later when I come up with some that I do think are.

Now, see, I never got that. I've always been a big Buffy fan, but honestly, I was just madly in love with Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg. And I simply did not get why Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia Chase was supposed to be so interesting to so many men.

And there's always been something weird about Sarah Michelle Geller's butt. I can't really explain it, but I've been watching a lot of Buffy on DVD for the last week and a half, and I keep thinking "what's wrong with her butt?"

Another huge Buffy/Joss Whedon fan here. Full agreement on the Willow hotness. And the bafflement over CC and SMG.

Anyway, it was always clear to me that Faith was the real slayer.

I was never into Charisma Carpenter either, always struck me as a b*tch. Alyson Hannigan didn't really do anything for me. As for SMG's butt, which season are you watching?

Julie Benz who played Darla had it going on as well!

Fringe sexy - Rupert Everett, although he's looking a bit odd these days.
Tom Cruise and George Clooney leave me cold.

Are you sure you haven't even thought about it?

According to many reliable studies on female sexuality, there is no such thing as being PURELY straight or gay, you are either bi-curious(thought about but never acted on) or bi-sexual(have acted on)

its okay, most if not all guys like the idea of seeing their G/F with another woman

You're completely misinterpreting the studies. Women are pysically aroused by imagining either gender in a sexual situation. This does not make them bisexual, any more than being aware that another man is attractive makes a man gay. You have basically projected your own wish fulfillment onto the studies, even though they don't necessarily mean what you'd like them to mean.

Originally Posted by LynnM View Post

That men are physically aroused by imagining one and only one gender in a sexual situation. Which gender it is differs from person to person, but men do not respond the same way physically to both genders. Ever.

Which, if you take Chris's approach to the studies, means there is no such thing as a bisexual man. Men are either heterosexual, or homosexual. End of story.

Trouble is, whether you're talking about men or women, reducing sexuality to such a crude level is rather offensive. Sexuality is not about what makes someone wet or erect. That's only a very, very small part of the equation.

Well tall women turn me on. Maybe because I'm 6'5". So I was into Geena Davis (6') for a while. Who is the tall actress from the West Wing? Oh yeah, Allison Janney (6').

Like the rest here, I don't get Aniston. She doesn't look bad but she doesn't have any sex appeal.

While we're on the subject, how is it that these people are voted "Sexiest" one year and then don't make the list the next year? Then they are back at the top again after a year. This after they don't really change their looks.

Just shows that it is more about how popular they are at the time. Not really an ongoing "sexiness".

I think the most appealing thing about Aniston to most guys is that she seems accessible - like if she lived next door, you might actually have a shot.

On a similar note, Nicole Kidman is one of the women I just don't find sexy, even though I used to. There was a point where she "crossed the species boundary" for me, and I don't even recognise her as human anymore.

It's like in computer graphics, there's a level of realism where it's just close enough to be really creepy. I think Nicole Kidman crossed some invisible line where she became too beautiful, and now my brain says "that's not a real person" so I'm not allowed to think of her sexually anymore.

That's how I feel about women who have too much plastic in them. Fake breasts, lips, cheeks, chins...

Pamela Anderson from Baywatch is supposed to be hot but she scares me. It's like being with some kind of "human doll". Just too weird for me.

I like women that look sexy without all that "filler".

Your right about Nicole. Have you seen her do interviews? She doesn't really smile and it's like they keep some kind of "glamor filter" on the camera.

now, sorry Terra, but I disagree. I think he's a super talented actor...I've seen him in some very dark movies like Sweeney Tood and The Open Window...he's just brilliant! I've seen him interviewed too...what I like about him is that he doesn't buy into the hype...he stays away mostly from Hollywood, unless he has to be there...he's a private person and makes no bones about it.

back to the topic...now Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings does it for me) is he fringe sexy? Maybe...

Eddie Izzard's always done it for me. Even in drag! Not that I'm typically a fan of cross-dressing males or anything like that; but there's something incredibly sexy about the level of self confidence it must take for a straight man to be able to walk out on stage in leather pants, heels, and full make-up. Once I saw him in a suit and tie... the attraction was complete

On the other hand, I've never found Brad Pitt at all attractive; and I have that same metal block Caliban mentioned toward George Clooney. There comes a point in time when you can actually be TOO attractive.

I think it's the makeup. He does a stellar job of it without looking like a whore, which is where drag queens and most female impersonators always completely screw it up.

I was going to suggest Clooney as the male counterpart to Kidman, but I was afraid the women of the forum would track me down and slaughter me.

Lol... no, no. I don't have a thing for drag queens, Caliban :p I just think it takes an unbelievable amount of confidence to do what he does. It's that confidence I find so sexy

I think it's his teeth that killed it for me (well, that and about a dozen eye lifts. lol!). They got about 20 shades brighter in between one time seeing him and the next. I understand wanting to have a dazzling smile... but blinding?

I mostly think Brad Pitt's overrated... though I actually quite enjoyed him in Interview with the Vampire XD

I also do like the makeup... but only on certain guys, and has to be done in a certain way.

I believe in chemistry too. Not that it comes into play here in this discussion but when you are out and about and near people.

When I was in school, there were twin sisiters in many of my classes and I was attracted to one of them and not the other. It was a "vibe". They were very hard to tell apart and many people talked about how difficult it was to tell who was who.

I didn't even have to see them to tell if Theresa was near me. I would get those little goose bumps if she got close.

I told a close friend about this and naturally he wanted to "test" it. He would set up these situations where they were standing there talking to him and I would walk casually by and feel the little hairs go up and signal to my buddy which one was Theresa. He would then ask them and verify.

Before long, my buddy had told another group of guys and it eventually got back to the sisters. Now they too were curious. They ran me through a few tests of their own and I passed with flying colors.

I was so consistently accurate that it started freaking them out.

Soon, I went from being some cool kid with almost super powers to the weirdo that everybody tried to avoid for fear of me learning some secret about them.

I still have those powers today and I even know what most of you are thinking right now...

    ..."too much information Matt".

Rod mentioned Lindsay Lohan. I thought she was hot back in the "Mean Girls" and "Love Bug" days - back when it was borderline pedophilia. Same with Britney Spears - the video in the schoolgirl outfit smoked.

Now both of them just look "used up"...

Same with a lot of the girls you see online - they're 18 going on a hard 40 if you look in their eyes.

On to the question at hand...

Lately, I've had a thing for Chelsea Handler. She's smart, a little crude and funny. Rene Russo is sexy to me. Drew Barrymore, at times.

Some of the ones I don't get -- Paris Hilton, any Khardashian, any of the borderline anorexics.

Mainstream sexy who isn't - Tom Cruise does nothing for me (plus he's bonkers). Orlando Bloom doesn't do anything for me either. I think "blah" when I see him - he is pretty, but not exciting.

Johnny Depp is SUPER sexy. He is so talented and confident and cool and interesting. My friends make fun of me because I still find him sexiest in Pirates of the Caribbean. I also wouldn't kick Brad Pitt out of bed for eating cookies.

Fringe sexy - Sean Connery still drives me wild. Yes, the old, bald, paunchy Sean Connery. I can't explain or justify. It might be because I fell in love with him seeing those 60's James Bond movies and my love has never died...and I used to imagine that we were married back then, and sometimes I still do. Clint Eastwood (what is he, in his 70s?) is still sexy to me too...even though he is twice my age.

Deeply Fringe sexy - Trent Reznor from NIN was and is sexy. Yes, against all my "better judgement." I know he is or was a big drug addict and a mess, but somehow despite that I still find him really sexy. I may be the only one.

Oh, and to Laura Knight - I have seen Leonard Cohen in concert - about 80% of his audience is female and they all swoon over him. At least for those who know who he is - he is NOT "fringe sexy" he is definitely mainstream sexy!

To find somebody sexy is very subjective, as we are all different and there are one million reasons to contribute to our judgement.
As for me for example, I tend not to be attracted by stereotypical beautiful actors, constantly tense and concerned about posing and being photographed always at a certain angle or position, smiling at the right second and so on. And then maybe they get interviewed and they can't even put a sentence together...
I am not much into movies or actors, but French actors tend to be my favourites...

Nicole Kidman has never appealed to me either - she has freckles

Red heads usually are kind of pale & freckly

Rebecca DeMornay & Milla Javovich are both attractive women

Actually I just clicked - most professional models are butt ugly

Skinny, lanky, ugly face without makeup & many even with makeup - meanwhile there is a bunch of ranting how gorgeous they are - its very odd.

Weird that I'm writing in about a guy, but I have to agree with Karen and CD, Johnny Depp is both sexy and cool. And an excellent actor to boot.
Now Viggo Mortensen, well , he is an ok actor and not terribly bad looking, but I thought he was a bad choice for Aragorn. Oh wait, this isn't a movie review thread...my bad.
And Milla? I can watch resident evil and/or The 5th element over and over just to look at her!

People consider Jennifer Aniston hot because shes mainstream. Notice its always women that like her. Because they can RELATE to her. Shes not ugly, but shes very AVERAGE. Therefore, people can relate.. and they LIKE her because shes not ultra-hot

What do you ladies think of that new James Bond fellah ?

Peirce Brosnan should never have been James Bond.

Pierce Brosnan is very handsome, but too slick to be James Bond. I didn't enjoy Roger Moore's interpretation of Bond either.

For "new fellah" are you talking about Daniel Craig? I think he is doing pretty good, but I find him a bit TOO thugish somehow (or maybe that is the way they are doing the stories now). Obviously, Sean Connery was the perfect James Bond. I might be a bit biased there, as he is sometimes my pretend husband.

I think Summer Glau is very pretty. I am surprised that you would know people who think she's ugly. O.K., I am NOT really surprised - pick any woman and someone will say she is ugly...although she does have really fat ankles...o.k. she doesn't but I wish she did.

I remember her specifically because she did a bunch of fundraising for a Women's Hospital here in British Columbia, although I don't think she is from here.

She has distinctive features; they're not like most people. Some people like that, some people don't. I can see it going either way.

As far as James Bond goes, Roger Moore was the perfect James Bond in my estimation, and Pierce Brosnan was a fantastic choice. Daniel Craig took Bond back in a different direction, and is really sort of an effort to reclaim the Connery days while updating the series for the 21st century... and for what they're doing, he's a great choice.

But to me, personally... Roger Moore is Bond. I can appreciate the appeal of other Bonds, but Roger Moore was the one, and only Pierce Brosnan ever came close. I almost have to look at the Connery and Craig films as being about a different person.
