Russian Military In Iceland Soon?

Already there is speculation that, with the likely forth-coming financial bail-out of Iceland by Russia, the price they will extract may include the use of an airbase at Keflavik (that NATO itself left 2 years ago).

It would be ironic given that Iceland seems to have only turned to Russia after both Europe and the U.S. turned them away.

Given that it's a NATO member, the Russians would not be stationed there but it could be used as a stop-over point.

Imagine the propaganda value for the Russians if it was used to refuel aircraft that go on to poke at the American eastern seaboard.

Already, I can hear a faint "Muha ha ha ha ha ha ha..." echoing over the horizon from the direction of the Kremlin.

Hmm...I had not heard about the financial troubles in Iceland, nor that Russia was capable of bailing them out, much less willing to do so. I recall the fall of communism in Russia, and remember the stories or loaves of bread costing thousands or millions (I do not recall which) or rubles. It is amazing that they have recovered to a point where they can now bailout other countries. It just goes to show that markets can be corrected with enough time and effort.

Interesting link, Mike...Tommy you are scaring me.

I just hope we have some Japanese in OUR air force so when we have more terrorists flying our skies (maybe before the 4th of next month?) we will have escorts for them so they don't smash into any more of our buildings. It really causes a ruckus when they do that, ya know. If Only the mountains were as high by the coast as they are on the highway of the 14ers (*heavy sigh*).

Now in all seriousness - if the Russians want to stir up a turmoil here they don't need to fire a shot. All they would have to do is fly by and see if they get an escort or not. If they do, there will be louder questions about a certain other event not equitably settled yet in American minds and sentiments, and if they don't we'll be one huge laughing stock, and might as well paint a bullseye on us here and there at that point.
