I was at my most shocking level when I was in Bosnia,
It was like 2 years ago when I was 11... I was holding a camera , and my bros were ahead of me.. 20m... and suddenly one guy takes out a revolver and aims at me ... i was so shocked.. outside I was frozen.. but inside it was a whole big traffic jam ... but after 30 sec of being frozen... that guy ran away.... it was a horrible moment... and thats my story..

WHATS YOURS?

    Most shocking moment... hmm.

I can't decide if it was the time when I was in second grade and
stuck a butter knife into a wall outlet, or the time when I was
18, I think, and was working on a piece of equipment and touched
12,000 volts DC - not on purpose.

Maybe that explains a lot. I dunno.

It was either the time I backed into an electric fence or the time I peed on one, both happened when I was around 5.

    I can't beat the OP's post.

But it was when I drove two cars into a river (at the same time)

I worked in a restaurant many years back (a restaurant at the top of a hill) and a guy I worked with swung his car around back, left it running and went inside to check the schedule. I decided to play a joke on him, get into his car, drive it around to the front and tell him someone took off with it.

Here's the thing: He had a '73 Caprice I believe it was and it had something called "pump brakes" where you push the pedal down, lift up, let it reset, push down, lift up, let it reset, push down, lift up, let it reset.

I didn't know anything about that, the only cars I've ever owned you push the brake pedal and you stop....RIGHT

Well, I got in his car, drove kind of fast around to the front of the restaurant and when it was time to apply the brake....the car didn't stop

I smacked right into a Ford Escort, that thing went flying down the hill, over the dock and into the river. The little escort barely held up the big Caprice, it was right behind it. Once it started going down the hill....I BAILED.

Once I got up and dusted myself off....that's when I looked and saw two cars in the river....one floating (the Escort) one sinking (the Caprice convertible) What's the moment you were most shocked? That was it!

According to the divers that the police called in...the Escort almost made it a quarter mile down stream before it sank.

My poor father...to this day I think I still owe him around $2,000 for paying the diver bill and compensating both parties involved

    I don't think I've played a prank since

daleron - I'm sorry. I know that was traumatic as hell for you -- but it's absolutely hilarious to read about.

That makes my most shocking moment seem pretty darned whimpy.

I had just moved into Burke Canyon just North of Wallace ID (where they filmed the movie about the volcano some years back). It's a narrow canyon and my house sat very close to the edge of the mountain - my backyard was actually 20 feet above the roof of my house. We had a door sized window on the second floor of the house that you could open and walk across the lower roof of the back of the house to step across the 7 inch gap between the mountain and that roof to get to the path to the backyard. It was only about a 100 foot walk. One morning I was going to take a thermos of coffee out to the backyard and instead of climbing the path at the side of the house with my hands full I went upstairs to use the roof access. There was a 200 pound cat sitting there looking in the window. Startled the beejeebers out of me. I didn't know what kind of glass was in the window or if the cat would try to come through it.

About two days later I replaced the glass in the window with bullet-proof, just in case. LOL.

Hey Sal, I'm glad you found it hilarious. Since nobody got hurt it's something I can laugh about now.

I remember the first house I bought, opening the chimney hatch and a racoon hissing at me. Scared the hell out of me. Later I saw it on the roof and it was a big mama racoon around sixty pounds or so. Looked like a bear cub. I'd freak if a 200 pound cat was outside the window staring me down.

#1 - I was helping a friend in his video store and a guy came in with this huge gun - pointed up at the ceiling and yelling, 'call the cops'.

Very strange when you are expecting 'Give me your money'. In any case I was shocked by the gun itself and started shaking.

I dropped to my knees (duck and cover) under the counter and dragged the phone off the counter by the cord.

I told the B**** at 911 what was happening and she told me the guy I was talking about was already in a squad car outside the store (she didn't need to fricking snicker).

(long story he shot up the Rockin Robin bar on Haight Street (Haight Ashbury, SF, CA) and the whole neighborhood was chasing him (4 blocks) that is why he begged for the cops to save him)

#2 When I watched 'The Secret' and then did research on how to 'RECEIVE it'. For one year I practiced 'VISUALIZING what I want' and 'KNOWING I already had it'.

Problem was it was a bunch of BS - result was only that I managed to create an obsession and was totally shattered to realize that it WASN'T happening and it was all my imagination that made it seem like it was.

It took me 2 years to get over it.

When I saw someone walk straight through a stone wall.

I later went back to examine the stone wall and found that there was a doorway there that had been filled in.

One time I was mowing the lawn on a riding lawn mower and one of the steering handles (which also doubles as the brakes when you pull it toward you) got disconnected inside as I was going downhill. I couldn't stop, and I ran straight into a tree, which was only a few feet away, but it was still one of the most heart-pounding five-second periods of my life.

    A few spring to mind.

#1: When someone smacked me "full whack" in the face with a hockey stick, when I was very young. One of the few times in life I ever remember having been truly "stunned". My whole face went instantly numb for a few seconds, then I felt pain like I'd never felt before.

#2: When my brother pushed me in the showers at the swimming pool, and I slipped, cracked my face and watched as 2/3 of one of my front adult teeth swirled round in a pool of blood and water, down into the drain.

#3: Was "competing" with a friend, trying to see who could swing the highest on a rope-swing someone had made on a big tree. I got the highest, then the rope snapped whilst I was in mid-air. My back at that point was almost parallel with the ground, and I fell quite a number of feet to the hard, baked mud, more or less flat on my back. I don't know what happened but for a few seconds I couldn't seem to move at all, felt no pain, and I was convinced I was paralysed from the neck down. Totally freaked me out.

And there's a few more, too, but these are the ones that stick in my mind the most!

I can relate to number three - not from several feet, but from at least a few feet above the ground. I was on monkey bars, somehow my foot got stuck and I lost my grip. I landed flat on my back. I remember getting the wind knocked out of me, lying on the ground for several minutes, going to a chiro and hurting for several days. But yours sounds worse.

        Bad luck! :p

Gotta laugh about these kinda mishaps now, I think ... especially since no lasting harm was done (or so it sounds).

Hell, a couple of years after I (or my brother!) broke my tooth (#2 in my above post), I was riding my skateboard on my stomach, down the street. A wheel got stuck in a hole in the path, and I flew foward, and hit my face/mouth on the ground. Due to the fact one of my front teeth was half-broken, the adjacent one was more exposed/vulnerable, and this one broke clean at the gum-line. That had to be removed, followed shortly afterwards by the rest of it that was left in my gum/jaw, due to an infection. I've got a false one now. I don't have much luck where teeth are concerned.

I guess that means no more monkey-bars and ride on mowers for you, and no more rope-swings and skateboards for me.
