How are you doing??? ... Really

Iv'e been dabbling, I've been learning... I've read thousands of pages of information from hundreds of sites. I'm ready to lock and load and target in on Niche.

Here's my problem: I have yet to find any real information that collaborates that a real "INCOME" is being made by us normal folk.... those who are following somone elses Niche Program and only have hundreds of dollars and a few hours a week to invest, whether it be NPC or another program .. and there are plenty of them.

It seems I run into two categories of information:

1) Mega marketers who claim to make millions through their programs and can show me how to do the same... I wonder if their millions are made through there evangelical marketing techniques profiting from the hopes of others rather than having a profitable offering.
2) Indviduals such as myself who are looking to build online marketing/sales businesses with hopes of replacing their current jobs with an online business of their own. I've read a lot of stories where techniques were followed to a "T" and at best months in only a couple of sales were made.

What I don't find are the stories where small internet marketers are making modest to good incomes from the use of these techniques.
Don't get me wrong, I have a good understanding of the proposition everyone is selling and even believe that it can work.

Here's the question: Can someone that is not selling a "Make Millions on the Internet Program" help me. In fact prove to me if I can be so blunt, that this is in fact a worth while endeavor.

My time and my resources are limited and "My Family" needs to see some results for all the hours I have and will need to put them second if I'm going to move forward.

I'll plan the work and work the plan, just looking for unbiased validation that I'm starting a business that can offer a scalable "ROI".

Don't get me wrong...I'm still optimistic... and by the way I love this "Stuff" to the point of obsession. If I know there's a pay off I can run on 4 hours of sleep a day for months. I Just want to make sure if I go that route I've made a wise decision.

In advance... Thanks for any imperical data you can share with me.

    Hey Winlin.

I'm no millionaire. I have been doing affiliate marketing full time for over 6 years and I can tell you it has it's up and downs but its how I earn my living. When I first got started, I was like yourself, wondering if it really was viable. I read all the hoopla and it was only when I started treating Affiliate Marketing like a business instead of a hobby, that I took it from a bit of cash coming in, to a part time income and then on to a full time income.

It has required a lot of testing and effort on my part but it's been worth it.

First I would make sure your doing your regular job and not setting the expectations of your family too high, by telling them stories of people making millions online as while it's done.

Many fall into the modest income from online activities. i.e full time or part time earnings which either lets them leave their regular jobs or allows them a nice nest egg combined with their regular work

What type of things are you currently focusing on? What have you created online so far? How long have you been doing this? Share with us some of what you have done so far and Im sure all of us here will contribute some ideas to help yah mate. Ok.

      Jon,

Thanks for taking time to respond. I'll admit the last two month have been more education than application. I don't actually have a site or a blog established although I have done a couple of squidoo lenses and a blog I established more for honing my site development skills than for actually marketing a product.

That said I'm ready to roll. From everything I've gleaned this is what I think I should be doing next:

      1) Find an area of focus I actually have an interest in.
      2) Choose a niche within the broader category.
      3) Use Clickbank, Amazon, and Google key words to find a segment of a niche that
      that hasn't been overly exploited.
      4) Find an affiliate product(s) that could sell to those that are interested in this niche.
      5) Establish a site with articles developed around the good keywords.
      6) Write articles for submission to blogs, e-zines, etc, with links to my site.
      7) Establish the site as a destination for free information offer an optin with free ten part e-mail course.
      8) Build a list and market to that list wtih affiliate products.
      9) After the niche has proven itself to be profitable.. develop my own e-book.
      10) continue efforts but sell my product (hopefully more profitable)
      11) wash rinse repeat

As I understand it I've been successful if a site can ultimately generate $500-$1500 per month through direct sales and the list it has been generating.

This is my rudimentry understanding of the process.. looks good on paper. Am I missing anything?

      What should my expectations be?

Thanks, and anyone who wnats to chime in please do so.

Main part your missing is " Action "

It's very easy to get bogged down with trying to learn all the ins and outs of everything area of business/marketing but a lot of it is just learned from taking action.

My first website was bloody horrible to look at. It was back when blogs were not big, most used a editor and a template. My template was illuminous Green it was nasty and I have to say Im still suprised to this that people didnt immediately click away. Yet I developed that 1 site up to making between $3,000 to $6,000 in the credit industry with affiliate marketing using a combination of search engine traffic and pay per click and that was when social marketing like facebook, twitter, lenses and such were not around.

Is that the norm run of things with every affiliate program that I promote? nope

Some affiliate programs I have tested and made nothing, others a few hundred and others i have grown them into the thousands mark.

Do they stay that way? Nope, the internet is one hell of a fast autobahn, things are changing, businesses changes and what worked last year might not work this year.

So I work in a number of niches that way Im always one step ahead of the changes that come at me.

Now that 1st website I created I wish I still had it to show people as it was just a simple, yet nasty looking site but it converted like mad and ranked well in the search engines.

It initially started out at around 20 pages and I just kept adding to it each day, checking where people were coming in from, catering to them specifically based on their searches and adding more product and pages.

My first time using ppc I blew $50 within a matter of hours it was horrific I learned bloody fast what to do and what not to do and back then there was little to no product telling you how to make a killing with ppc. I learned by chatting daily on the phone with staff at Overture ( now yahoo search marketing ).

I chatted to the affiliate company weekly on the phone and learnt a lot about the credit industry. This info was useful in making my site more better quality and focused on the market.

So my advice is...get motoring on starting you can adjust along the way.

Now days I usually enter into 3 niches at once, this way I can find the golden egg in among them and develop it further from there.

Pin down the niches after your research into which one is most likely to be profitable you have been looking to, and out of 3 select 1 of them and get building the site as until you do that.. well you know

    Hi Winlin

I have an offer for you if you are interested.....
We have been working in the internet marketing/web development industry for a while now and just as JonMills experienced, it does have its ups and downs, but you can make a good living from it. We no longer have normal 9 - 5 jobs (I'm sat here typing this at 11:45 pm!) and thoroughly enjoy what we do!
If you would like, we can coach you in different aspects of this field and how to actually get it off the ground with nothing. We sarted this with maybe $50 and are now earning a very steady income from it. If you search for my partner Mark Byrne you will see he has listed various WSO's ranging from autoblogging to sales page creation. To prove to you this really does work, and also to give a bit back to the forum (a new warrior in need) we will give you free access to all WSO's and as much Skype time as you need :-)
I don't have PM privelages at the moment but if you leave me a message on Skype (katiebeard90) I will get back to you tomorrow!

      Hi Winlin.

I am working online for around 3 year. I am not millionare, and I didn't create yet a static income. After reading Jon Mills post I think I use internet Marketing as hobby, learn as much as I can, meet new people, but I take it seriously as business.

For last 2 years I used veretekk to learn from trainers, and myself I become trainers. I teach about webhosting, how to set wordpress blog, backlinks.

Last night we had a special training with Tom Prendergast CEO of veretekk, and something brocken. Yesterday I make decision to start new project, but start it seriously, not as a hobby. Put into this everything what I learn about online marketing, traffic generation and make it work.

I am as you, average guy with family and 8-5 work time. Two kids need my attention and time, and I spend very limited time with them.

Yesterday I decide to make a test on veretekk automated marketing system. At my blog WarriorForum - Internet Marketing Forums - mariuszantonik you can read details about this project - 60 thousands leads in 30 days.

I can't show you what I did before but there you can watch what I am doing and see if this can help you.

I wish you all the best.

Dude this is what I do....
        1. I have signed up with a company ( years ago)
        2. By their stuff each month ( because I actually like it)
        3. If you don't like the product - get the F out of it -- quickly
        4. get leads ( too many ways to list here) -> yes I buy them sometimes
        5. have a good headset phone
        6. Tell wife I'm calling leads ---> So Go Away Please
        7. call people and get them to listen in on a webinar ( on how the business works) -> should be free BTW
        8. Keep records of calls and other pertinent info
        9. enroll people who are interested
        10. make override income on what they buy
        11. get a check every month
        12. show people how to do the same thing ( most difficult)
        13. make website in the meantime to gather own leads and
        keep learning
        14. Yes Old school marketing will never die out, relationships depend on it
and it's easier than learning online marketing

I have an eagerness for online marketing that is on the brink of obsessive and whilst I have made some money, I'm still struggling to make ends meet (which ain't hard for a single mum of 4!)

Now at the point this month where I have to seriously consider looking for a J.O.B and putting the babe into full time childcare if next month's rent is to be paid but I keep looking at the statistics that say 95% of marketers give up just on the brink of a breakthrough and I just am so determined to be one of that 5% that makes it. I know where I fall short, I'm a great writer (and have been told so by a top notch copywriter), I understand marketing and am just finishing a Diploma, but fall short if I have to pluck up the courage and speak to someone about it!!

    Just keep trying..just keep trying...just keep trying...lol

Thanks for sharing... LOL, this is what I meant when I made the statement ...

I wonder if their millions are made through there evangelical marketing techniques profiting from the hopes of others....
"I guess I just aint buyin' everything these preachers are sellin' "Where you cannot give them satisfaction give them hope (Francis Bacon ?)" ...

I hope not to come across a cynic ; I really am a believer and i do keep trying, tyring, trying, merely trying to sort out the real deal.

That is exactly what I have found - I had an affiliate site working well for me up until a couple of months ago then all of a sudden, the money just stopped coming in - I've tweaked and prodded at it but it just appears dead apart from a small residual amount from a monthly program.

I find that I tend to lose focus when I try more niches so that is something I need to work on. I'm trying out Mark Joyner's Simpleology 101 to help me stay focused (free program) and finding it very useful.
