Well, I'm rather bias, but for my birthday last year, I had a chocolate labradoodle, Archie, and he's absolutely gorgeous. He's a bit bigger than we thought but great with the kids, always pleased to see me and doesn't answer back ! lol |

I have a delinquent whippet (whippet-tales.com) and a retired greyhound - sighthounds make great pets and love nothing more that to lie at my feet whilst I'm working.

Bichon Frise, Hands down. My wife and I used to breed them. We had 3; 2 females and a male. I literally could write a book, (and have been told I should), on some of the amazing things these dogs are capable of. The smartest, most compassionate dogs I have have ever known. |

There are so many great dogs - I always end up adopting one that needs help and a forever home. Gracie (pit bull) and Doodah (blue heeler) are my buddies now but I've been blessed with many wonderful companions over the years - all rescues. kay |

I have a picture right over my desk of wrex (shephard/dane that I adored - and it was mutual) - Gretta (sweet shephard), Sheba (lab-setter) and Sylvie (lab-chow). There are many more, too, that were with me for many years. One of the oddest things I've seen (and can't explain) was that Gretta mourned when her friend Sheba died. She went from room to room day after day and would lay on the floor beside Sheba's bed. In my office one night Gretta jumped to her feet and barked - tail wagging - head up and I'd swear she was smiling. She ran to an empty corner of the room and jumped around as if she were playing with something. After a few minutes she stopped and went to Sheba's bed and laid ON the bed. She never mourned after that and never looked for Sheba again. I was left sitting at my computer wondering what just happened...but knowing I didn't have the full story. Truly amazing creatures! kay |

German Shepherds. Every dog trainer I have ever met has one because they are simply the best dogs around. My children grew up with one who would let them do anything to him and yet he would have probably killed anyone who looked the wrong way at them - adults only, he loved kids. My current Shepherd is a female (my avatar) and has the most extraordinary personality and memory. She is now 3 years old, not 8 weeks as she was in the avatar photo. Unlike the cross-breeds, you know exactly where a pedigreed dog comes from and can usually view parents and siblings to check what they look like and how they behave. |

We always had silver-blonde Cocker Spaniels - many while I was growing up in my extended family, but they got weird because of inbreeding. Names were Little Bohemia (Bo), Lady, Bouncer and Kit and countless puppies from Bo and Lady. My favorite dog was a dog named Home Fries who was a Border Collie/Shepherd mix - a rescue. His girlfriend was a Belgian Shepherd named Frieda and she was a sweet girl. I have always loved Labs of any color, and love Pits and Rotties. I just love all dogs and I don't think I ever met one I didn't fall instantly in love with except maybe Poodles and yappy neurotic toy breeds (we also had quite a few of these when I was coming up) they kind of go with cats in my book - just tolerated. If I could have a dog though it would be a Golden Retriever or an Irish Wolfhound. Irish Wolfound: |

Growing up, we had two dogs. The first was a cross between a black lab and a low fence. Great dog, but had a bit of wanderlust. I put on a lot of miles chasing her around the neighborhood. Smart, too. We had to move the latch from inside the gate to outside because she learned how to let herself out of the yard. That's why there was a hook on the screen door about six feet off the ground, too.The second was a cross between a German shepherd and, you guessed it, a low fence. Another smart dog, but this one was a homebody. She used to crawl up in your lap as a pup, and it was cute. Not quite as cute when she hit 60 pounds. When my wife and I finally got into a real house, I got a purebred black lab. He was one stubborn son of a gun when it came to training. Tough, too. Had the same kind of wanderlust my first one had. He survived two gunshot wounds, a coyote attack and a run in with a high fence with a female in heat behind it. When my wife's mother had to move in with us, she brought her terrier mix. Once she and the lab figured out who was the boss, they got along great. We don't have a dog right now. Partly because of lifestyle, partly because bringing them in on that last ride to the vet is so damn tough. I guess that to answer the original question, I have a soft spot for labs but my favorite dog is whichever one I have at the moment... |

My favorite is the ones I curruntly have. I've had cocker spaniels, irish setter, beagle, fox terrier, basenji and labs. Every one was wonderful but, unique. The Basenji was fearless, and for a 30 pound dog that is fearless meeting a wolfhound on a walk well, could have been ugly but, the wolfie knew his power and laughed. Now I have a young 4 year old female lab and an old fart 13 year old male lab. He hasn't been doing very well lately and I fear for him. Vet says he is ok, but he eats about 1/4 of what he usually has.He wines alot in his sleep too. I wish people were more like dogs. No BS No grudges They forgive in seconds. Loving They know what is really important. I hope I go before he does. |

I don't have a pet right now. We had a 19 year old cat that passed... I would like either a Lab or Irish Setter. Leaning toward the Irish Setter. I like playful dogs that are lively. We have 7 acres here so there's room... Lambert |

Hi, These are the dogs that I love: - Pugs, like the talking dog in the movie, "Men in Black" with Will Smith. - Boston terriers, wow are those dogs hyper but they really make you laugh with the silly things that they do. I saw one that just liked to flip around in the air or bounce off a wall. What a laugh!!! LOL!!! |

I wish I had a dog My favourite dog would either have to be a Husky or a Dalmatian. I love both dogs, dearly. But my mother isn't too fond of dogs, so I can't have a dog in the house. My pet hedgehog will do for now, though, at least until I move out with my friend |

Hi Ron We have had two German Shepherds prior to Archie and they were lovely. Very loyal but decided on a change. Archie is a chocolate labradoodle and I have to say overpriced but neverless a very intelligent/loving dog. |

On January 5th 1998 I was driving down the Hollywood Freeway in L.A. when I saw what looked to this Aussie like a small dingo (actually he's a Basenji-Jack Russell cross) on the centre divider cowering in fear. I pulled up and got him into the car and took him to my vet. The vet said it was the worst case of malnutrition he'd seen and wanted to put him down. I said he should be given a chance and took him home to nurse him back to health. Called him Sonny as Sonny Bono had been killed that day in a skiing accident. ("And the beat goes on...") I should have named him "Shadow" as he's always just behind me. The vet said he thought he was a bit over a year old when I found him. Now over 12 years later, just take a look at the energy of "my best mate" Sonny with His Ball on Vimeo |

Boxers!!! I don't even like dogs, never wanted one. But my husband asked really nicely if we could get one, and I couldn't say no. We narrowed it down to Boxers because they're great with growing families (we don't have kids yet, but we will someday.) Plus, I saw those little wrinkly faces and for some reason just loved them! My husband picked a female and we named her Hexen (German for sorceress) then one of the male pups picked me. Just crawled into my lap and fell asleep like he owned me. So even though I still don't generally like dogs, I now have two Boxers. Utz (the male) is my nearly-constant companion, although he'd rather squeak a toy loudly and crawl all 70 pounds of himself into my lap than let me write!!! I wouldn't know what to do without him or his sister though. Igor, your dog is adorable. Mine are both fawn colored and have docked tails, but I just couldn't stand to crop their cute floppy ears! |

I've mentioned this in another dog thread here somewhere - A childhood memory is of a favorite uncle who had three boxers that went with him everywhere. Their names were Shirley, Goodness and Mercy - go figure. I went to the local shelter to make a donation last week and I'm amazed how many purebred dogs have been taken there. It's so hard to even go there and not bring a dog home (for me it is, anyway). The shelter manager told me people are bringing dogs in because they've lost their homes and have no way to care for the pets. What a terrible thing for children in those families. |

As much as they have a bad reputation, my favorite breed of dog will have to be the Pit Bull. Mine was great. Very loyal, loving, and intelligent. Granted, much has to do with how they are raised. But he was the greatest pup anyone could ever ask for. Now my ex has him,and he also gets along with her other dogs, (hunting dogs) so lab, etc...
