I purchased the domain - healthcareinsurancebill.org - and wanted some ideas on how you would monetize this site? I've got a few ideas, and I've got it setup at Hostgator, but I would like to hear your ideas on what you would do with it.

first i'd get it off hostgator because if you do it right htis could be a decent domain. Put together a forum, spread the word that this is a place to come air your grievences, make it political oriented, then find dvd's like come from Alex Jones' sites about how the current admin is going to eat your babies, and maybe spend a little money on a bulk purchase of bumper stickers with something derogatory about the admin, and maybe t-shirts that say something like

    I Heart Obama

    and

You'll only get my gun after you pry it from my cold dead fingers, which wont be too long with this health care bill...

    and start targeting the clients

use RSS feeds to scrape news sites for articles on the HC bill for content

      Thanks Michael,
Good idea, I didn't think about a forum. Why would you take it off of hostgator, and where would you put it?

I think that such a polarizing site would probably draw more bandwith than hostgator can supply. Might not hurt to startit there, then move it later, but i think you will outgrow that host fairly quick.

Well, I've also got the .net for the same site, and I started to make a blog that simulates Facebook, but I stopped. I wanted to make sure I was going in the right direction before I started building it up.
With both sites, I can try 2 different approaches. I like the forum idea, but I'm still wanting to hear of some more ideas from everyone.

OK, I set it up as a forum - healthcareinsurancebill.org - so now I need to start drawing the traffic in, and figure out what to do with the .net site.

Twitter would be great for this. Post some controversial questions/topics and send people to your forum to discuss. Search Twitter for posts about health insurance reform and reply to them with links to your site.

Make sure you use a relevant hashtag or two in each tweet to draw more people to your tweets. A few top political hashtags: #tcot for conservatives, #dccc for democratic national committee, #hcr for health care reform.

Caution: Your tweets should NOT look promotional, and don't put a link in every single tweet (1 tweet with a link out of every 4 or 5 tweets is a good way to go).

The forum's a good idea. You should be able to take advantage of the current charged political atmosphere and get some good brawls going.

btw, there's a huge thread right now about the healthcare bill on the Off Topic Forum: http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...N5U4kw4S4OiGlo. Lots of folks with VERY passionate views. You might want to go over there and invite them to check out your forum.

for now, just use the .net as a redirect...or sit on it. You dont necessarily have to put anything on it, you can park it and throw up adsense and links to your site so you can still make a little change on it while its parked.

Or you could do what was suggested and pack it full of games/videos. There are hundreds if not thousands of flash games out there that are politically oriented and youtube is just bursting with videos on just about every political topic there is.

You could use the .net site for the games videos and then link back to the forums so people get get all hyped up from the vids and then come into the forums to start a brawl.

You're either going to need unbiased admins or let it turn into a free-for-all, but that will probably not keep a crowd too long. I wouldnt have nazi admins, let people say what they want..etc..as long as it doesnt get personal or threatening, no hate speech..etc. You want people pissed not leaving. Pissed people type, people typing keeps people coming into the forum.

Very good info from all of you, I've got "Bookmarking Demon" that I'll also use after I get some more posts in to the forum. Right now I'm getting ready to leave for Charleston, SC for a long overdue weekend vacation.

I also submitted a campaign to microworkers for 30 posts to be added to get the forum rolling. 1st time I used them, so we'll see how it goes.

    Motley,

HEY, I recently found out Obama is putting gun dealers out of business!!!!!!!! One guy spoke of how he always had a couple hundred guns for sale, now he has only a few. He used to sell bullets, and now they are rare. WHY!?!?!? They are so popular, that he is having a hard time keeping them in stock. The smaller guys, obviously, have a harder time coimpeting. I might try to get another gun on saturday to see just how bad it is.

Interesting. This reminds me of the time when there was a big hype about the swine flu. Everyone was buying swine flu domains.

He only has a few because gun sales have skyrocketed since obama took office. He's probably the best thing to happen to the gun industry.

And from what i've heard, the ammo industry has two problems. 1, everyone is stocking up, 2, the military is not passing their used brass down to the private sector any more. Normally, the military would sell their spent brass casings to the private sector for reloading. About a year or two ago, i saw a memo from the DOD stating that used brass was to be destroyed, not sold to private sector.

You might want to go to places like prisonplanet.com or infowars, they probably have an affiliate programs. THose kind of things would probably do well on a site like that. Need to adjust the code on the site a little and make it so that affiliate offers come up between every couple posts or so

Unfortunately I don't think it is a very valuable domain. Sorry, but it's already obsolete. It's not a bill anymore. You may want to get healthcareinsurancelaw.com or healthcareinsuranceact.com which are available, but they will be difficult to monetize also IMO.
