What is the longest time you have not used your computer?

Curious... in the last 10 years... (or since you got hooked up 'online')...

What is the 'longest' period you have gone without using a computer? (This includes vacationing, but text messaging, answering cell phone calls, etc, related to business -- basically bringing your work with you).

I remember about 15 years ago... The "super" wealthy or "affluent" people were those that had a "laptop" or "cellphone"... "Everyone" envied them, and thought 'boy, it must be so lucky to be them!'... "Everyone" wanted to be "super successful", have a computer, have a cellphone, have a pager, etc, etc... It was like you were 'nobody' unless you had one of the above items...

And now, 15 years later, it seems the the super wealthy/affluent are those people who can afford "not" to use their computer... the ones who don't have to check their e-mail, answer a phone call, etc, etc... and can do that for longer than 24 hours...

So what's the longest you've gone without using a cellphone/text messenger/etc and/or computer, specifically related to business?

I think I went about 25 years one time.

But then I got my first computer, and that was that.

      OOPS!

      Dang it!

      I did it again!

I have to remember to read ENTIRE posts more carefully before responding. Just missed the entire opening line of your post.

So, I would say since I've started earning income online...

It would be the week we spent at Walt Disney World. Didn't even take the laptop along. Nothing.

Had the time of our lives, too!

      All the best,

    Do sleeping hours count?

Actually, when I am playing blackjack, it provides my alternate obsession. Sit me down in a casino with a decent blackjack game and I won't miss my computer or my iPhone. Much.

Well... I went to the mountains two weeks ago for a weekend getaway. I did not even take my laptop, and my cell phone was only used for personal stuff, no business whatsoever!

Whenever I go on vacation I try to not carry my business with me at all. That is time for my fiancee and I to simply relax and get away from our hectic lives.

Do you consider mobile phones, iphones, ipads etc to be computers?

sombody can be off it for a week from their computer, but be on their phone checking for updates?

or are you excluding them products?

I can stay off a computer for as long as I want to - but for
me maintaipning an income in this business requires vigilance
at this point. In the future it may not.

I have to be doing stuff with my hands. My fingers are in
constant motion unless I'm reading or choosing to be very
passive - so typing is natural for me but if I'm away from
writing I either dive into reading, play my instruments
    or fix and build stuff.

I am on the computer all the time. I can go about 4-5 days without it before I start going through withdrawal. I do have an iphone which also helps a lot.

I love going out into nature for 3-4 days at a time. No broadband in the forest, and satellite... well it sort of defeats the purpose! So I usually check emails etc when I get home. Outsourcing customer support is next on my 'to do' list!?!

Unfortunately, we are all hooked but this is a business after all and to establish a business you must work at it. I have read that the failure rate for small business is extremely high. We all know at present - some are failing because of the economic conditions. At least with a business online you can keep your monetary investment small but your time investment is enormous if you really want to succeed.

I try to at least get some breaks during the day but they never last long. Guess I will have to change my thinking and take more breaks.

    I. S. 001 you are testing us.
This is one of those questions that makes you sit back and look at yourself.

Are you going to find yourself wrapped up in the technology to the point addiction. You know, you just run to the store and when they ring you up, and you hear the keys on the cash register ... do you think of the keyboard you just left?
Are you the one saying " I think I'll see if any emails came this week."

Most, I think are in between there.
I tend to jump off any time one of my kids comes along with a
"can you?". They tend to keep me from getting to immersed so it makes it easy to walk away for any amount of time and that seems to be often.
Yea right I know I didn't answer the question.
Recently I went for almost a week without since mother nature thought she'd be funny and cook me a special pc platter during a thunderstorm.
I missed it, but didn't mind a bit after alot better pc came for my patience.

I took a week away from it over the xmas holidays, & it was blissful. Although I was a little twitchy for the first couple of days  Periodic breaks are definitely a good thing, as it's easy to lose focus & start wasting time or falling into compulsive patterns of surfing, stat checking & that kind of thing.

    Oksa,

You BEAT me! If you count the time before I had a computer, 17 years! If you DON'T, about 1 week. I was busy recuperating from open heart surgery, and spent most of the time in the hospital living with no more technology than an amish person really. NO TV, NO phone, NO car, etc...

4 days, while traveling internationally. this was before Wi-Fi, so I didn't bring my laptop, and at the time my cell phone was only good for making and receiving phone calls. Seems like the dark ages now, but it was only 8 years ago.
