Hey warriors,

Can you die for your spouse, kids...anybody?

I'm just curious as usual.

I started to answer this by stating there are many warriors who have been in the military of their country---and that simply by pledging allegiance to their country they are stating their ability to die for SOMETHING.

Then I realized that one can never truly know their ability to die for another until faced with death themselves. Many (most) people have no idea of what death actually is-----t.v. and movies can in no way prepare you for the actuality of being in deaths vicinity.

If you flippantly state that you would die for another without actually being in the presence of death (especially traumatic death) I doubt that many would actually be truthful.

Personally, I know what death is and what death does----and I can truthfully state that, yes, I would DEFINITELY die so that any member of my family would live.

For my children, yes without question.

As far as people in the military, which I was a soldier many moons ago, you are willing to put yourself in a dangerous situation knowing that you are risking your life.

But as Gen. Patton once said, "Your job is not to die for your country. Your job is to make the other ******* die for his."

Yes and no. I would die for my kids or spouse but not until I watched my kids grow up to know if they turned out okay. I guess that is selfish on my part but I want to know they are doing well before I'm gone. However, if my kid needed my liver in order to live it would be a touch decision. I would try to find a donor for him first and if nothing worked I would die as the last resort.

The liver regenerates itself, so you may be happy to know that you can be a liver donor (they will take a part of your liver away) and that it will grow back!

Likewise when they do take part of your liver away, and give it to someone else, that part of the liver grows and regenerates itself in the other person too.

So that's the one good thing about something like that. Kind of like how we can survive with only one kidney, or only one lung. (donors can, and some people who have to get them removed can as well).

It gets complicated, however, when we need something like a brain or a heart. :p...as there is only one of those.

I think any parent would so this. If you love someone you are prepared to sacrifice anything for them. I thought that there would never be any doubt.

        Absolutely!!
I watched my 13 year old son die from cancer 3 years ago, almost to the day.
Would have swapped places with him in a heartbeat.
        Cheers

Dying for anyone I love whether it be a friend or family would not be a problem.
Living a life that someone else has chose for me is another matter.... as not being true to yourself is a living death!
