at least here in the US even a cell phone with no paid service allows you to call
911 Emergency. Find one that somebody is no longer using ask them for
it ... just leave it on the automobile charger at all times and now you have
    an emergency communications device.

Nope, you're not the last one. I don't own a cell phone, either. Have no desire to have one. There is such a thing as being TOO connected.

I used to have one, and didn't like being "connected" 24/7. However, we did get a Tracphone from my dad and stepmom. They do come in handy.

But, I wonder how many other Warriors don't have one either?

If anyone wants my old cell phone you can find it here,

    Latitude
    : 38.259488
    Longitude: -85.752566

That is the bottom of the Ohio river just off the 2nd Street Bridge.

I was so fed up with everyone constantly calling me I tossed it out the car window on my way home one day a few years ago.

    Haven't had one since.
    Much quieter now!

      Nice! haha

I have a cellphone actually. I use it for dating. You need a partner in your crime

For you guys who actually gets calls due to business, maybe you just need to not give out you "personal" numbers and just give out another number at which they can call at a specific time range.

I REFUSE to own a cell phone. There IS such a thing as being over-connected, there is also a thing that is now known to be truth and that is that one of the wavelengths of radiation cells give off will give you cancer. It's RADIATION, HELLO.

It took me 4 days to walk out of the mountains when I got stranded.....and ya know what? It'd wouldn't have made one rat of difference if I'd had one or not because there was no reception out there - the person that picked me up when I finally walked to the main road couldn't call the cops because there was NO reception.

As far as I'm concerned I'd be happy if we destroyed cellphones and got rid of that radiation grid that is now practically encompassing our globe and causing such havoc with the environment. I'd also like to see people exposing themselves to some disconnect time, too - constant connection is making people crazier than they realize.

I avoided the cell phone thing as long as possible but when I had to start calling customers all over the US and Canada, and traveling to conferences (I have kids) I got one. Otherwise I'd be landline only.

I had one back in 1995 - gave it back to my boss

Haven't had once since - I must admit probably once a year I think "now would be a really good time for a cell phone" other than that, I function just fine without one

Well, it's a lot easier than copywriting.

On my carrier texts cost like 1/445.9 of a dollar a piece. So, texting is really awesome!

The N97 is quadband ... so pretty much can work anywhere around the
world where there is a cellphone network and signal. Does most things
and has a reasonable 5Mpx camera. My son has one!

i have used nokia n97 for last 3 months and then sold it. its a very crappy mobile phone i think. the processor is very slow (compared to other mobile of the same price range). it has a very low amount of ram (128mb) which is also very low (compared to other mobile of the same price range) so it shows "low memory, exit some programs" message very much. besides it still uses the old crappy Symbian OS which is also pretty much slow because of this low ram and processor power.
my recommendation is go for Android mobile (like HTC/Google/Samsung Galaxy etc). i think the next generation cell OS is going to be Android os

I seriously doubt the OP is still looking for cell phone advice since this thread is 9 months old.

I agree with everyone saying you can be "too connected".

The other side of this coin is that people who use them constantly are totally disconnected from their immediate surroundings.

Yesterday I arranged to meet someone for lunch, and was waiting outside for them to arrive.

Whilst standing there, someone chatting away on their phone, walked straight into me. Then, taking a pause from the conversation, snarled at me "Watch where you're going". They then continued on their merry way, completely oblivious to everything going on around them.

That isn't the first time it's happened to me either.

I must be getting more tolerant in my old age. If it had happened when I was in my 20's, the culprit would require surgery to remove their phone from an orifice where no phone was meant to go.

    Rant over. Carry on.

I don't own a cell phone either. I cherish my solitude and don't want other people to decide when I'll interact with them. I have a google voice phone number tied into my gmail account. It's free from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the continental U.S. and Canada. When I shut down my computer callers can leave a message and I'll get back to them when I decide to do so.
