That might be why he wants the UN to do it. But WHY would people do that to a country that has really done NOTHING wrong? And a land war could be VERY dangerous. Basically EVERYONE, at least all the older males, is a potential deadly foe, and they are EVERYWHERE. and all that because his son wasn't given special treatment? Almost ALL of the UN, and ALL in the area, by islamic reckoning, is INFIDELS!

If I was pissed at Switzerland I'd want someone else to go after them, too
Even the Nazi's didn't want to mess with them in WWII, that should tell you something.

A reported converstion between a German and Swiss Diplomat, c.1939:

"You're so proud of your 500,000 man citizen militia... but what will you do if a 1,000,000-man German Army comes marching across your border?"

"That's easy. Each of us will shoot twice, and go home."

Well, you CAN'T have a German army unless it is GERMAN! GERMANS would have to come out of GERMANY! Throw EVERYTHING else out, ethics, need, desire, historical relations, various international laws, and you STILL have that PESKY treaty they signed over 50 years ago! It wasn't signed with switzerland, it was with the WORLD, and covers really ANY other nation. If they marched on switzerland, they would be in VIOLATION!

ALSO, switzerland doesn't have an ARMY per se, it is a MILITIA. While the germans crossed, they would be picked off. They couldn't even drink or eat without the fear of getting shot. So the whole premise of such a statement of numbers is faulty from the start.

Still, HOW do you get a german army from some other nation? EVEN if they were all expatriated german citizens, germany wouldn't want that apperance of impropriety.

The conversation Thomas quoted was from 1939. Before the treaty.

Sorry, I took the ""You're so proud of your 500,000 man citizen militia... but what will you do if a 1,000,000-man German Army comes marching across your border?"" quote out of context, but my statement is still true for the current day. Of course, for 1939, part of it ALSO would have been true.

And they also have army knives with spoons, nail files and cork screws...It's no wonder the Swiss haven't been in a war in over 500 years.

Methinks that is the reason for it. Even the US and UK govt's have given the Swiss a hard time over their banking system.

As far as their banking........I would trust their "secretive" banking before our nice little installment of World Bank or BOA. Who knows...it might have some metal back there somewhere.

As of 2005 the Swiss National Bank holds gold reserves equal to 20% of its assets. I'd trust them before the World Bank any day.
