The new season of Dr Who premiered in the US on BBC America last night
and it was fantastic.

Matt Smith is going to be a great doctor and his new companion is hot.

I didn't think they could replace David Tennent but Smith will do just fine.

Looking forward to a roller coaster season.

    Steven,

You poor American saps! I'm already on the 3rd episode! (I'm in america, by the way, I just get my shows in a different manner!)

I'm liking Matt Smith so far, but to an extent, he seems to be acting just like Tennant. I LOVED Tennant, no one can really replace him to me, and I want the new guy to be The Doctor, but be different.

    Make sense?

Chris, how long have you been a Dr. Who fan?

For me, it's been over 40 years.

What you need to understand is that this is essentially the same character
just being played by different people. Because of the way regeneration
actually works, there MUST be some familiarity between each Doctor or it
      doesn't work.

I think Matt Smith is brilliant and has just enough of the Doctor essence
while bringing just enough of a twist.

As far as his resemblance to Tennant, aside from what should be similar,
watch Tennant's regeneration scene (when he first got on the show) and
compare it to Smith's. They are nothing alike. Smith's was much more
animated and a hell of a lot funnier.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Tennant. I also loved Tom Baker (1974 - 1981)
who, at the time, was considered the best doctor to that point in time.

William Hartnell, the first doctor, was the doctor and I thought he'd play
the role forever. When you're 6 six years, you tend to think like that. But
when I saw he'd been replaced, I was really upset. I thought I'd never
      love the show again.

But I did. And when Baker came along (I was 17 at the time) I forgot all
      about Hartnell.

And Tennant made me forget all of them.

But each season, whoever played the doctor, was just as enjoyable
because of the great storytelling and the whole concept.

When Russell Davies resurrected this show after about 16 years off the
air, I was scared to death that he wouldn't be true to the show's history.

As you can see, I had nothing to worry about. He nailed it.

The David Tennant years may be the best so far, but don't rule Matt
      Smith out just yet.

The scene where he asked Amy to trust him for just 20 minutes was living
proof that when the 11th doctor comes time to say farewell, it will be
just as moving and memorable as Tennant's farewell in "The End Of Time"

Watch...you'll see. Smith is going to grow on you an all true Who fans
      big time.

I'm willing to bet on it.

**NOTE** As you can tell, I'm a Doctor Who freak. The only other show
that I've ever been this much into that was on as long (almost as long)
was the Star Trek series from TOS all the way to ENT.

Makes you wonder when I find time to do IM.

Yeah, and I especially like that they're bringing back the Angels this season. Haven't seen them since Season 2.

I'm totally on board for Matt Smith as The Doctor. I'm too much of a fan now. I'll see it through.

I've only started watching Doctor Who with the new reincarnation of it and I never even finished watching the first season with Eccleston as the Doctor. When friends started talking about it, I checked it out again with Season 2 and have been hooked ever since.

And the new girl? Beyond hot! But I already have a redhead of my own...the hottest of them all!!

I've only been a Whovian for 30 years, although I have dug back and watched most Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee. Tom Baker has always been my favourite but I find something to like about all of the Doctors.

Each actor brings something unique which makes all eleven worth watching. From the impatient arrogance of Colin Baker to the seeming menace of Christopher Eccleston, I enjoy them all.

Having seen all three of this seasons eps it's pretty clear that Matt Smith is coming into his own. This season is going to be great.

Tom Baker. He was my favourite.

And I though David Tennant was great.

I watched the first episode the other day here in OZ and I liked Smith.

But by god he has an old looking head. Its like his face is to big.

His new assistant looks interesting. Will she be swapping uniforms every week? if so cant wait for the nurse episode or the french maid.

Tom Baker was my favorite until I saw David Tennant.

In fact, it is said that Tennant styled his performance after Bakers. I do
      see it.

    The new Doctor's ok
but I didn't go much on those new fangled Daleks.
    Can't beat the old ones.

I am with you on that one! I used to watch the Daleks episodes from half way up the stairs - Old fashioned daleks couldn't do stairs!

I still haven't decided about the new Doctor - so far his assistant seems to be solving most of the problems.

But I am looking forward to tomorrows episode - River Song back again!

I am old enough to remember all of the doctors from the beginning. I remember being horrified when the Doctor regenerated into Patrick Troughton playing a tin whistle!
Like Steven my favourite was Tom Baker until David Tennant came along. I have so far been pleasantly surprised by Matt Smith. However although the storyline was good the first week it has been a bit weak since then and I thought the new Daleks were a bit daft and not as scary as the old lot. (haven't seen tonight's as I was out watching some of my kids performing instead.) Still I will be watching every week without fail.
Does anyone else remember the very first time the Daleks appeared?

Although everyone will have their favourite Doctor (put me in the Tom Baker category), one thing I'm sure we can all agree on is the awesomeness of the theme music.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop came up with one of the most famous and recognisable pieces of music ever. Even people who have no interest in Doctor Who know where it's from.

Just watched episode four "The Time of Angels". Holy Crap!
The return of the Weeping Angels. First of two parts. Very
intense and wonderfully scary. The Doctor at his best. Can't
      wait for part two.

"Blink" was my favorite episode of all time, from Season 2.

I like seeing the Angels back and what changes have happened now.

Can't wait to see part two!

Blink was one of my favourites as well (season 3, actually). The current ep is cool for adding more dimensions to the Angels. And making them even more scary, if that's possible. Six more days...
