"This is a rant! If your just going to tell me I'm a whiner don't bother (save us both, move on now)...If you want to respond and help me see where I may be looking at this a little differently then the rest of the world (I've been known to do that)... Please, I really do take criticism well. What I don't take well is evil intention and downright meanness."

My Message:

Hey all I hope this is the correct Forum for this topic... After just coming off a week of being banned for PM Spam, I'm a little skiddish about doing anything... (I sent 2 Private Messages That Solicited my Offering, They were both in response to problems that my offering might solve... they were very low key PM's)

In my mind the personal message was less abusive to the the forum then responding my offering as a blanket reply in the thread... my bad.

In my mind someone had a problem and I had a solution, sales 101.

In my mind this is a profit oriented site... not an Ice Cream Social.

But I'm good with that "the rules are the rules" I guess my real issue is there was no warning, no notice of rules violation... I was simply cut off with no way to respond... If I'm ever holding a witch trial, I'll need to find out who was responsible for this and and love to have them as the judge and jury.

I'm a little sensitive about the whole thing because I 'm just like everyone else, I believe... trying to eek out a little piece of the IM pie... I carve out time that could be spent with my family.. which by the way is not happy with me for spending so much time persuing the IM dream.

I'm a good boy... my intentions were not to abuse the system. I simply made an error, a misinterpretation.

"YES" I should have read all the rules and even gone back to the original agreement which I presume I clicked and stated I read the 50 pages or so of how I should handle myself and how my lawyer has cleared me to proceed... Couldn't somone just say... "Hey Winlin your violating a rule" No some over zealous person had to say "Off with his head"... Thankfully the real moderator only hit me with a weeks detention and not lifetime banishment...

Is this the norm here, to simply cut someone off? What do you think... Isn't some type of notification warranted, simply as a professional courtesy?

Thank You for Listening...

If any of the volunteer mods took the time to 'warn' those violating the rules, they wouldn't have time for anything else. Plus you would have many who would argue with them wasting more of their time.
What you should of done was say, 'I might have something that would help you. It's my own product so if you want the link to see if it's for you I'll send it to you in a PM.'
In my mind this is a profit oriented site... not an Ice Cream Social.
In reality it's an Internet Marketing forum where you share information on IM. Only the WSO, Warriors for hire, etc, sections are "profit Oriented", or set up for you to make money here.

    Winlin,

In a perfect world, the mods would have the time
and the inclination to educate and inform those who
wind up on the other side of the rules.

However, in THIS world, there is a marching army
of knuckleheads who view this forum as a for profit
marketplace rather than a community and seek only
to exploit it for maximum personal gain.

Net result = a weeklong "vacation" that makes perfectly
clear that whatever behavior preceded it is, in fact,
    "not a good idea".

Sometimes, that velvet hammer drops on those with
    pure intentions. It happens.

    Now you know.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Winlin,

    You said:

In my mind someone had a problem and I had a solution, sales 101.

    Well...

in the internet world, it can be considered spam.

If you offered it as seemingly free advice, and it wasn't, or it was an affiliate site, you broke the rules.

    And you said:

In my mind this is a profit oriented site... not an Ice Cream Social.

    Well...

This was STARTED as a PREMIUM! Allen got NO money from this site ********NONE******** after a usually MODEST sale. LATER, people were "invited", or happened to find the site, and came in with allen getting nothing at all. He didn't have ads, rarely made any posts, and they were generally informational, and didn't have the war room, WSOs, etc... he has now.

Some of the "invited" people EVEN had the audacity to say that he should make the website reachable from the base domain, as it is today. If he HAD done that, EVERYONE would have gotten here and this site would be a mess without him able to offer it as a premium, or get even the paltry amount he often got. So there was a definite REASON why the base domain only said that it was where the forum was, and didn't actually access the forum.

That went on for YEARS, and allen kept improving the site, before he seemed to make ANY money from it.

Frankly, MOST sites run as allen ran this one either become a total mess, or just shut down because it does cost money.

To be fair, he DID also offer this as a premium, and provide support, for a partnership he had with a hosting company, but it is my understanding that that isn't beiong done anymore either. It looks like the support forum is gone. AND, while he WAS involved with that there was even a rule that people basically couldn't suggest another hosting company.

The people that got warriorpro, as I did, or setup an account at host4profit(the host), were allowed to refer people to host4profit with an affiliate link. And apparently Allen got a little bit of the profit each month from all such sales.

As for the warnings, maybe the mods were just fed up with EVERYONE'S actions. You were a new member, no real history, and they may have had a lot of garbage before they came to your stuff. I think they probably do give warnings. They gave me some, for another issue, but it was more public, and I have been here longer. HECK, I was one of the ones that originally paid. That kind of stuff happens EVERYWHERE!

      Steve,

This isn't correct, when the Warrior Forum started it was $20 per year to join. I remember way back in the day, I believe it was Corey Rudl (R.I.P.) who I first learned about the WF from. I foolishly didn't join bc I didn't understand why I would have to pay $20. That is a mistake I kick myself for still.

Wow, I remember it being less than that, over all. Of course, I joined earlier. I don't know exactly how the 2003 date ended up there, and I DID come here later than I could have, but even THAT is before 2007. Heck, 2003 wasn't that long before I had my aorta problem. It didn't lend itself to any subscription system since, once here, you could stay. ALSO, there were various products with resale rights that included this as a premium.

BTW I checked archived email. It isn't perfect, and I just looked for things from the domain,

And this was sometime AFTER I purchased warrior pro and Allen sent it to warriorpro purchasers, but the first message I got there, according to my records, was:dated 4 Dec 2002 07:24:24. And all purchasers got the link to warrior forum in warriorpro. In fact, the subject line was "Warriors: Great New Promotional Tool".

as I recall, it was very close to how warriorforums war room works today, except you paid upfront, before getting the URL, and there were a bunch of things on that site that you could use and/or sell.

BTW I bought Cory Rudls very first book internet marketing book, the one that was basically a notebook style binder. The one that spoke about using, for example, the banners that looked like windows controls. and he seemed SURPRISED that they earlier worked VERY well and were starting to lose effectiveness. Well, that was *****EXPENSIVE***** in my book at the time. A good deal MORE than $20. MOST of his stuff was EXPENSIVE. Heck, the ebook generator was expensive BUT only good for like 1000 copies. Want MORE copies? You have to BUY more keys. And you thought $20 was expensive!? WOW!

And yeah, I was sorry to hear about the crash also. 8-(

I'd hold off on that one. Put your product/site in your signature and people can see it if they want to.

There have been many people PM'ing "my product will do it for you" in response to threads asking questions. Yes, it will be reported by those receiving it because they don't want sales pitches by PM.

Hi Winlin! I hear what you're saying - warnings would be nice but I can see how it would be extremely time-consuming for the mods. Especially since you're probably in the extreme minority - a rule-breaker with the best of intentions and a good attitude.

I started off on the wrong foot here at WF - had an affiliate link in my sig - I couldn't find the rules. Sounds dumb, but I didn't realize they would be inside the main forum, which I had not yet visited because I felt it was too general and I was focusing on other specific forums. I was expecting the rules to be in the overall forum list or in the news and announcements section.

I'm grateful that someone pointed it out to me before I could get banned, even though I wasn't crazy about their tone. Since then, I've come to see how much work it is to keep spammers at bay, especially in a forum of this size, and can totally see how I may have appeared to be just another in a long line of offenders.

I would still like to see the rules more prominent on the page that lists the various forums, but I realize they could be 500 pixels high and flashing neon pink (you know, sorta like your 'do) and people would still ignore or disregard them.

Anyhoo, I think it's great that you have such a reasonable and positive attitude. See you around.

I don't mean to offend you I am however shocked though at people joining forums in this day and age with no idea of proper forum etiquette. Personally I do not like unsolicited ims from strangers for any reason. That being said there are people here I am already forming an association with who are welcome to im me. In general though, it's a good idea not to im someone who doesn't know you or your intentions and never do that in an attempt to sell them something. That's just a no no on any forum.

I can definitely appreciate the fact that you are accepting your own responsibility in this issue. Just use it as a learning tool and move on :-) We all have our days eh.
