OFF TOPIC

2 days ago, I got a sign up from someone with an email address: ...@revenue.alabama.gov

She didn't contact me or send me any message until now.

Why do you think she did so? a routine check? suspect?
(or maybe she is looking for a new job and wanted to download my job hunting guide

)

Hmm, sounds suspicious. I personally wouldn't use my work email for my personal stuff.

There are many, many levels of employee at the IRS.

Are you running your business in such a manner that would give rise to concern that an agent from the IRS is investigating you?

If not, then don't worry about it and sell stuff to her.

Not exactly undercover is it.

Either delete the opt in if it's bothering you
or just relax, I'm pretty sure an IRS agent

Taking a quick look at that site, I find that it is NOT the IRS. It is the revenue department for the state of Alabama. Which I pretty much figured from the URL. Anything from the IRS will have "irs.gov" on it.

I wouldn't worry about it. I had someone join one of my small lists from a .mil (military)site. Got a bit worried as i had been spending a lot of my time on a conspiracy forum. :-)

  Hmm, why are you so worried? Seems a bit suspicious. I better call that IRS tip line about "suspicious" characters.
  
  A lot of people use their work email address. After a mailing I usually get a spattering of those "out of office" call so and so while I'm out from their work email. Including big companies.
  
  Someone using their real work email address is a hotter prospect than someone using "mythrowawayemailaddy@yahoo.com" anyways.
  
  I have friends that worked for the state revenue agency and the IRS...if they were looking into you for a case you wouldn't know until they kick your door down or you got a nice letter about an audit...so don't worry.

If it's going to make you second guess your marketing, delete it. That will cause a larger dent in your sales than 1 "hot prospect" could bring back.

Plus, no one likes to feel like they're being watched. Even those that say they have nothing to hide..

Please understand that anyone conducting a sting would not use an actual email address to their office. That would be like a plain clothes police officer hiding on main street in a marked car to catch a drug dealer.

That having been said, state attorney general offices are openly looking into claims being made on websites about income, ect...

I am sure you are doing things on the up-an-up and would have nothing to worry about anyway.

If you were being investigated by the IRS... that would be a federal thing. Do you honestly believe they would use an email with irs.gov at the federal level or anything similar like revenue.alabama.gov at the state level for that matter, if they were investigating you?

That would be like the DEA calling the druglords to schedule raids on their operations.

You will not know the IRS or State Revenue is investigating you until they already have all the info they need on you.

I get .gov and various other government sign ons at RHS1 now and again. I guess maybe they read what I write here before it gets deleted, or maybe follow me on twitter............or.........
Maybe they love to hunt great agates and crystals? Ya know - it's not always a bad thing to have members of the gov hanging out with you. Some of them can be very interesting and informative. They do ask now and again what a certain rock is worth though. Make em pay cash.
