First Rule Of Marketing...Bitch About It

It's gotten to the point where I can no longer take it.

The number of marketers, not just here, but everywhere, who bitch about
how people market, simply astounds me.

This one doesn't like guys who use special characters in a WSO title thread.
This one doesn't like long sales copy.
This one doesn't like hyped up sales letters.
This one doesn't like sig files.
This one doesn't like even a hint of self promotion in a post.
This one doesn't like...

Please, if I go on any further I'll make myself sick.

For crying out loud mother of God, we're marketers.

As long as we are not lying, cheating or stealing or breaking any forum
or Internet rules, then can we please have people stop the bitching about
how other people market?

If somebody is running a WSO with a title that has special characters
that are drawing people's attention to it, then find a way to counter it.

The irony is, one of those WSOs has like 2 replies...that's it. It's had very
few views and I seriously doubt it's doing all that well.

But you know what, that's not the point.

Marketers will market. They will test things. They will try things. They
will do whatever they can to increase conversions within the rules of
the platform they are advertising in. Even Google Adwords has rules about
what you can and can't put in an Adwords headline, 2nd line and 3rd line.
If it's not against the rules, it's fair game.

Want to talk about ethics? Well, we can get into a conversation about
ethics that can last a month of Sundays. But the bottom line is this. If
you're not doing anything illegal, if the product your selling does what it
says it does and if you're not cheating your customers, then you are doing
nothing wrong.

Meaning, if you want to hang freaking balloons from your sales page and
it brings you in more sales, then God bless you.

Can we please stop the bitching about all this stupid stuff.

Because I'm tired of it being the first rule of marketing.

It's freedom...freedom to market, run your business or just plain live the way you wish and freedom to choose not to buy from them or be around them because you may not like their 'technique', lifestyle or whatever. Let it be!!
I have discovered (maybe that's not the correct word) that is seems more these days than many years past, people seem to be complusive in wanting (forcing) someone to run their life the way they do. Or tell someone how they need to live. And if they are really evil (unfortuately I've encountered a few), they will take steps to try and make you do it their way!
It is quite frightening, as my sig will tell you.
Yes, Steven, I agree, live and let live. If you don't like it, ignor it!

I believe that is called conformity.

I have seen it much too often these days. People expecting others to conform to their expectations of the world. Their world is not "perfect" until someone else makes it perfect for them.

This goes way beyond following rules. Rules are in place to ensure that everyone in that particular environment conduct themselves accordingly and fairly.

It crosses the line when someone has unrealistic expectations of others and forgets about personal freedoms, free will, free thought, and the freedom to disagree.

Did anyone hear in the news of a man being shot three times in the chest because he was wearing an Obama t-shirt? What has this country come to? Because someone had an opposing view of a political candidate and felt the need to end the life of someone?

      One thing about the internet...

People reading text online cannot hear a person's tone, nor their emphasis. They can only perceive it. Perception comes from their own reality, experiences, knowledge, and values.

      Not someone else's.

I cannot experience your reality anymore than you can experience mine. We all have different upbringings and beliefs. Those beliefs should not be expected, or more strongly, forced onto others.

I do agree. If someone doesn't like something, it's their choice to look away and ignore it. But why expect others to conform to their beliefs of how others should be is beyond my comprehension. I guess people can hold themselves in such high esteem that they tend to look down on others whether consciously or not.

I can say I wish all the complaining and finger pointing would stop, but that would be me expecting others to conform to MY expectations.

But I choose to ignore it, not waste my time, and not bother posting.

      It's MY choice.

      All the best,
      Kevin

Steven....are you on any blood pressure medicine!
I think I see a vein bulging out of your forehead

You need to write a song about this and post it on youtube.
What happen to the Steven who wrote the Warrior Song?

Anyway....I am with you 110% Cynicism and Out Right Rudeness.
People who live in glass houses should not cast stones...but yet they
are the fist to declare war.

As I pointed out in another thread....misery loves company and I really
think that half of the people who are bitching are bitching because they
are lousy marketers, who have no income from this business are jealous of those who do and have nothing better to do than complain.

      They all suck!

LOL - I love it. We are bitching about bitching.

Frankly, I have found the only way to shut people up when they give "advice" that isn't called for or make suggestions that completely defeat the purpose of something is to ignore them. They usually have an ax to grind because they were told they could not do something they wanted to (such as no affiliate links in their sig) and just don't have the sharps to figure out the underlying logic, so they feel slighted. Let them kick and scream and when they get tired of not getting their blanky and baba they will go elsewhere where they can feel more powerful.

      ROFL! My thoughts exactly

There is talk of freedom here to do and say whatever we want in order to market products and services, as long as we are not cheating, or misleading people. Fair comment, and the same freedom should also be applicable to people who want to bitch! Its sorta like television, where we have that proverbial button to switch off what we don't want to watch.

Maybe you need a break? Getting upset over what other members post on a forum you don't control is a bit out there. Ignore the complaining threads and move on to a thread that interests you.

Yes, most here are marketers - but not all. Some haven't learned to look at things from a marketing perspective - others may have a bad day and just need to rant (and you've posted some rants yourself).

      It's just not a biggie.

        Exactly.

If you're not on blood pressure medicine, I'd highly recommend it. And you're a big ranter yourself so I hope you will take your own advice.

Baby Bottles For Big Babies -
Get Yours Before They Are Banned!!!!

Canada will soon ban baby bottles declaring plastic baby bottles are dangerous. The announcement comes six months after Canada's health ministry labeled plastic baby bottles as dangerous. But, the European Union and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration say plastic baby bottles are safe. However, the FDA is awaiting word from a scientific panel expected to deliver an independent risk assessment later this month.

"Today's confirmation of our ban on baby bottles proves that our government did the right thing in taking action to protect the health and environment for all Canadians," said Environment Minister John Baird in a statement Friday.

Several U.S. states are also considering restricting plastic baby bottle use. Get your baby bottles now before they are BANNED! If you buy 12 bottles, you get a FREE burping apron. Order today. Satisfaction guaranteed, but don't hold your breath.

Ask about our 60 page sales brochure, including free instructions for new suckers.

For what it's worth, have you seen how people treat each other through the YouTube commenting system???

Compared to that, most of the 'bitching' that goes on around here gives me a vision of aristocrats sitting around a fire, sipping tea, adjusting their monocles saying to each other, 'I disagree Sir Harrington, this is my educated opinion my good Sir'...
