Hi Everyone,

I just needed to vent - and warn UK warriors.

Virgin media (national) have been screwing up my telephone and internet connection from day one.

Now I want to change providers and they have manged to get it wrong again!

I rang up six days ago to get a MAC code (to seamlessly transfer my broadband provision) But instead of issuing me a MAC code - they have decided to simply disconnect me.

So sometime today I will be disconnected from the internet. then I will have to contact a new provider and get reconnected - which could take from five to seven working days.

So be warned - the customer service people are all very friendly - but couldn't run a piss up in a brewery, and I have seen chocolate fireguards with more utility!

OK - off to check out lolcats while I still can!

Don't YOU usually give THEM a mac code? I mean it is usually used to uniquely identify equipment. Of course, some IDIOT decided that it was cheaper to use the same code, and there were either many, or they just said "HEY so and so, IT DOESN'T MATTER" So the MAC code doesn't work as well as it is supposed to.

BTW I don't know about the UK, and some Americans will even argue with me, but a lot of american mobile phone companies, and cable companies, are incompetent, etc.... Just two examples are pac bell and AT&T. Oh SURE, the stuff worked over CA. In AT&Ts case it even seemed to work in other states. When AT&T cut service in a couple states, they didn't even seem to understand why I was complaining!

They said they worked FINE in those states, I said they DID, until they stopped providing service. They claimed the PHONE was bad! I said it worked fine in two other states. They said the phone was KNOWN for having problems(It was perhaps THE most popular phone at the time, and a NOKIA). I said FINE, send me ANOTHER type of phoone! They said they HAD to send me THAT make/model. They sent it, it worked NO better than the other!

I EVEN tried explaining it to them like BABIES! I DON'T want a phone! NOBODY DOES! I certainly DON'T want a "service"! NOBODY DOES! I just want to be able to communicate with people on the other end! It really IS a SIMPLE concept! One THEY don't seem to have ANY ability to understand.

You would THINK that the fact that it STILL worked well in two states would indicate that it is NOT the phone! The fact that it did NOT work AT ALL in two other states where it DID work would say it is likely a problem with compatibility or contracts with companies in THOSE areas. But THEY just wanted to play games.

I now have perhaps THE most expensive service there is because it is the third I have tried. The reception is not always perfect, but it has worked EVERYWHERE, including the 4 states AT&T ONCE did, but didn't when I switched!

And as for comcast? Well, just try returning a box! I tried that TWICE. Once to comcast, and once to a company that became comcast. BOTH lost the box, and started trying to bill me for it.

BTW Pac bell and AT&T are two of the companies that joined to create what became cingular, and is now AT&T again.

Yeah Steve, that's what I was thinking.

    But I was wrong.
The UK does use MAC codes to transfer broadband services, while what you and I were thinking of here is the US is a MAC address.

Yes, we use many different words for the same thing, and then when different words actually mean different things, we get confused.
