Yeah. And given how those things form, I would not want to live anywhere too close to that right now. The area around it could easily cave in with more rain.

Where did you get that depth number? I hadn't heard anything quite that extreme.

It says that on the keyc.com page. It does look extreme also. Looks like it goes to the middle of the earth!

SOME old cities, like that, were built on top of older cities. There are really only a few ways a sinkhole like that can form....

    1. underground water making a cave of some sort....
    2. Some huge city carelessly built on.
    3. Some complete imbecile making some GIGANTIC city project, etc... but 300 feet would be an INCREDIBLE feat, so I DOUBT IT! The limit is probably closer to like 30 feet.

Of course, it COULD have been an old mine, or dump, that was carelessly filled in, but even THAT is a stretch!

You have to wonder sometimes though. Look at haiti! They started trying to build on top of the rubble!

Looks like someone built a city on top of a huge cavern -- I'm sure they will descend to get a look at what's going on and I would love to see what they find. When gaming was brought back into the Central City, CO area they had to go under the city and shure it all up because of all the mining tunnels, which they figured would collapse under the weight of the traffic, etc. But 300 ft? Holy cow.

Interestingly - there is a legend of underground tunnels and even a few underground cities running through S. America. Maybe such legends have a reason for being after all. This is going to be interesting alright.
