I use outlook so I get that little pop up window every time I get an email. So to answer your question I never really check it since its always being checked.

I check my email maybe 5-10 times daily! But the email I'm using has some pretty cool features such as an email tracker, self destructing IM, video email etc.. That's why I use my email so frequently =)

I use gmail and in the morning I open it first thing, and after that it stays open for the rest of the day. I'm always seeing if something important comes in.

I check mine two times a day.

        Once in the morning.

        Once about 8.30 P.M.

Then I get a little more work done and
        turn the computer off.

I also check twice a day. Usually first thing in the morning I scan for priority emails. in

Then in the evening I make two passes. First, I look at the from and delete any junk. Then I page through the rest scanning for anything I need to act on or anything I might be interested in. Some of the emails I receive, I subscribed to years ago. I am in the process of reviewing and canceling those I no longer want.

I never check my mail. It just miraculously appears on the kitchen counter. It might be possible that my mailbox has some kind of transporter functionality.

I don't really check my email either. My email client does that on my behalf and will even go out of its way to let me know if there's something there for me without me having to do a thing.

I check my personal email once a day but my business emails probably over 10 times a day.

For awhile I was going to be more productive/efficient and just check them twice a day. It really worked very well but at some point I got back into checking too many times. I had a good stretch where money was regularly coming in so it was fun to keep checking. I think I will go back to twice a day and try to be more disciplined.

My last past was more tongue in cheek, but I thought it might be interesting to read everyone's experience of their email clients too. Here's mine.

Having switched from Windows to Ubuntu (and being glad I did), I now use the inbuilt Linux Email client Evolution 2.28.3.

I previously used Microsoft Outlook and when that wasn't working well I switched to Thunderbird. Mozilla's email client is ok but since using Ubuntu I've found Evolution to be a much cleaner and faster operating email client than any I've used before it. I have all my different email accounts setup with Evolution, including my gmail accounts. I notice Evolution is much faster than any client I've used for bringing in gmail emails too.

I check my email 4 times a day. I feel this is enough to ensure that people are not waiting too long to receive answers and yet is not too often that I am obsessed with my email.
I guess at the end of the day it depends on the amount of mail you are receiving and the importance of mail you are receiving so almost all answers can be explained.

I check my email way too many times a day. It's easy to fall into this kind of addictive behavior when you're getting online orders 24/7. But that's life as an Internet Marketer. Currently, I'm trying to discipline myself into checking my email during 2 or 3 pre-scheduled intervals a day. It's a struggle to overcome my curiosity and just sneak a peek to see if I've made some more money, but I know this is a bad way to use my valuable time and I'm always running the risk of going into a reactive mode and start answering emails from clients.

      Me too.

I use Outlook also. It's the first program I open every day, and it stays open. When new mail arrives, the envelope appears on my toobar. If I'm busy I don't notice it and often don't check the new messages until later, usually when I feel the need for a break in whatever I'm doing. And then, I proceed to hold down my Shift key, highlight the spam, and hit Delete X.

I check my emails continually. That's a big time waster. I followed Tim Ferriss's guidelines on this.("4 hour work-week") His book is so good I can barely bring myself to quoting for fear of short-changing anyone, but I must agree with him that checking 1st thing is a huge huge time waster
