Ok - so I knew walking the dog just before dark wasn't bright - bugs are far too active at that time. But I did it.

And I thought I was lucky - just one bite on the inside of my wrist. Looked like a mosquito bite and itched so I put some bug bite stuff on it and forgot about it.

Started itching again just now (several hours later) - and the darned bump is about 2 inches across and sticking up almost half an inch. It's reddish and the skin all around it itches.

If I ever find what bug bit me - I'm going to bite him back! Stupid bug.

Well Kay that doesn't sound like an ordinary bug. I think you better
bleed that thing asap. You know... lance it.

    Always glad to help!

Right - darned thing is still growing - now it's 2 inches wide and 3-4 inches long. Doesn't hurt - just itches like crazy.

And you think I should lance it? That is so not going to happen.

I'm going to take my book and go to bed. If I don't wake up dead of bug bite, I'll pull a Scarlett and worry about it tomorrow.

Ok Kay... scratch the lancing bit. Since it's getting worse, and you
probably won't read this until tomorrow... Still, I found this and it has
a number of things you can try.

Does anyone know how to reduce the swelling/redness of mosquito bites? i have so many and theyr huge ='[? - Yahoo! Answers

Lots of people responded, so you may find something that will help.

Kay - come in Kay - speak to us. Are you ok?

These tips are some good ones Ken -

Except please Kay do not use clear nail polish - most of the other things sound sane and logical.

The doctor told me I am allergic to bug saliva - yech. they have saliva  = quite a few of the people who posted on Ken's link mention this too. But what you describe sounds like something worse to be THAT big

I know they say fleas used to gang up on me because of Vitamin B deficiencies - but I guess I don't have them anymore because haven't been bitten by anybody in a long time. (they also mention B1 in the thread)

        I woke up alive!

The itch is gone but I have a slightly swollen and reddish blob 2 inches wide that begins on the inside of my wrist and heads up my arm. It's larger but less swollen so seems to be healing.

Man, I wonder what bit me!

edit: should add that "blob" was 6 inches or so long this morning so it grew a bit

Pat -that makes sense. One of my dogs has flea allergy dermatitis - and that is an allergy to the flea saliva. Just a couple fleas would drive him nuts itching.

Steve - I determinedly did not mention spiders because I didn't want to think about that. Had a lot of problems when I bitten by a poisonous spider in my teens. Not pleasant.

I haven't read the thread yet but this seems like a fairly normal condition for about half the population on the planet...

P.S. I'm glad it wasn't 'hospital' serious, Kay.

Swelling is going down a little and the redness fading - must have been a reaction to a bug bite.

Doctor? Remember, I'm the genius that had serious concussion symptoms for days before I thought to ask a doctor about it....

Could be spider bite, Kay - wash it off with some hydrogen peroxide or alcohol and get some hydrocortisone cream on it. If that was a recluse, the only thing that will stop the spread is cortisone.

If it was a recluse, you COULD get necrotising fasciitis. I'm surprised heysal doesn't know about this: Necrotizing fasciitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia SEE A DOCTOR *******QUICKLY******! BTW I saw a person that got necrotising fasciitis from a brown recluse. NOT GOOD!

Yep - and the only way to stop the decay of flesh is cortisone....which the article doesn't mention, but I was told (by a doctor) AFTER I got a spider bite that the steroid can stop the spreading decay of the flesh and to use it just in case it was a recluse. Then if it didn't work, come to see him and don't let it go too far before I do that.

Steve - there are a lot of types of necrosis and the one from spider bites is not from bacteria (usually) it is from the poison the spider has in its jaws. It's a whole different type of necrosis than you have cited there.

Yeeh, I thought it odd they only mentioned bacteria. The name is not of a disease, but a SYMPTOM. The name means.... KILLING(necrotizing) by irritation/disease/toxins of(itis) the body's tissue(fascia).

But HEY, lkook at kissing bugs(harmless little nick that goes away quickly) or the deer tick(a nusiance that is rather slight). BOTH may be 100% harmless! You may think you are FINE! DECADES later, that kissing bug bite can destroy your heart and cause strokes! That deer tick can cause almost anything frlm a little exhaustion to arthritis, a bad heart, etc.... And that may take DECADES!

KAY, I believe NF spreads fairly fast, and it looks different, so you PROBABLY don't have that. It DOES sound like you have an infection, reaction, or parasite, and THOSE can be harmless, and disappear in minutes or a couple weeks, or be deadly and come back in a decade. I am usually not an alarmist, but I hope you will see a doctor. The GOOD news is that you probably have a longer period of time since MOST things that are REALLY bad and fast would have given you other symptoms or killed you by now.

There are so many bugs in my home. My son has a rash from a bite from a bug. Do you have any pets in your home? Have you look for spiders in your home? Maybe you could look up info. on the web search for bug bites and rashes. It would be a good ideal to see your doctor if your rash is not better soon.
