These Commercials Are Funny But Do They Make People Buy More?

I hate to admit it, but these commericals when I hear them on the radio make me laugh and sing the jingle.

But I don't drink so I cant evaluate whether they sell more beer.

Thoughts?

    Since the commercials are there to provide viewers with the time to go cook a meal or get another drink, they can't really be expected to sell as well.

    It's mostly for brand awareness. When someone goes to a bar and orders a beer, the brewery wants you to ask for THEIR beer. And if you have no real strong feelings about it - which, honestly, most Americans don't - they'll just say the last kind of beer they heard.

    I read a study on this in some marketing publication several years ago. They showed participants a series of commercials about different products, and asked them to fill out a form on what they thought of them. This was not the test.

    The test was the small refrigerator in the corner.

    To show the commercials, they used a film projector, and turned out the lights. When the researcher came back, he turned the lights back on and opened the refrigerator to offer the participant a soft drink.

    Between participants, they changed the switchplate to display different brands of soft drink. Everyone was offered the same brands every time, but different people saw a different advertisement for a fraction of a second before making the choice.

    Fully two-thirds of participants voluntarily chose the drink that was on the switchplate.

    So the jury is no longer out on whether advertising works.

    they're creating an image of their product and linking it to certain emotions (need to belong, coolness, etc.) so that by buying the product it seems like they're becoming more cool, belong to a certain group of people, etc.

    So yeah, they work, but you can't track how effective they are because it's not direct response advertising.
