OK...Firefox will connect to the internet fine, but internet explorer won't.

I'm trying to use a program that requires internet explorer to do its work.

I've gone through google trying to find out how to get IE online....can't get it it's driving me frickin nuts.

I uninstalled and reinstalled IE. ran spyware adware and virus checkers.

I even added IE into all of the possible exceptions including in the windows firewall and internet security programs.

NOTHING works....

HELP?

I eventually was led to the fact that I need to contact my comp manufacturer, DELL, for this type of technical support...but they want friggin $60 to answer my question!

    Google Malwarebyte's anti malware program.
    Download it.
    restart computer in safe mode.
    Run the program.
    Delete any problems it finds.
    Restart computer.

    Open IE.

Tools/Internet Options bring up a setup dialogue.

Select connection, and press the setup key.

From there, you should be able to get IE to connect to the internet through whatever it is you're using to connect to the internet.

If this doesn't work, call your broadband provider, or your lan administrator for further help.

tools - internet options - connections - lan settings - and see if anything has been entered for the proxy server. If the use proxy server has been turned on, clear those settings, uncheck the box and save settings.

Sometimes malware will install a proxy server on your computer, then set internet explorer to use that program to access the internet. And sometimes malware will use a remote proxy server - so that your online activity can be monitored and tracked.

It's funny that I stumbled across that solution elsewhere online yesterday...after digging for hours and hours...But you ARE in fact right on.

All I did was uncheck the box "use proxy server" in tools>internet options>connections>LAN settings>uncheck box

      PROBLEM solved.

If you did not accidentally change that setting, then there is a good chance that you have a malware infection.

As a precaution, I recommend you do full system scans with at least 2 malware removal programs:

Malware bytes - get it for free from download.com
Combo fix - get it free from beeping computer.

Pay close attention to the results of combo fix, it also looks for Root Kit activity.

If your using internet explorer as your full time browser, you might want to switch to FireFox.

That's actually the first thing I did. All the spyware, adware and virus checks

Then I came across the fact that those malware programs actually tick that one little button. Makes ya think you have a virus...and it worked.

          Thanks again.
